If you are a US citizen, you need a passport to fly to the Bahamas. BUT If you cruise to the Bahamas from a US port and return to a US port NO passport needed according to the government website. However, some cruise lines are requiring you have a passport, best to call your cruise lines if you are planning to cruise to the Bahamas.
Lastly, the Bahamas are not part of the USA.
Good Luck)

Well if you fly to the bahamas you will need a passport because the bahamas is not part of the U.S. but if you go on a cruise to the bahamas going and coming from a U.S. port then you dont need your passport. However, they are going to change this starting June 2009.

Have you ever heard of 'LEND LEASE" this was when Roosevelt sent all the war equipment to England before the U.S. got into the war... supposedly he LENT the equipment to Britain in return for a 99 YEAR LEASE on the Bahamas... so in a way, the Bahamas are a part of the U.S. for another 50 years of so.. but they are still considered a British protectorate
