Is there a color injustice in Jamaica?

Are whites and lighter skinned blacks better off in
Jamaica than darker skinned blacks (majority population)?

Its a tricky situation, they aren't necessarily better off but sometimes there is more of a class divide , where people of certain complexion get treated better or sometimes money is associated with a lighter complexion because many of the upper class in Jamaica happen to look a certain way. Light complexion, straight nose, long hair. There isn't however an obvious prejudice

Tanya
Yes they are, unfortunately. Things are slowly improving but as I said slowly.

Unnu know seh unnu a lie!!! from I born, i see the difference on how "brown people" are treated and how dark skin people are treated in Jamaica!! ...and trust me, its not always fair!! That is everywhere though, its just the Black race on a whole, we need to get that sh*t together, and realize that no matter how much melanin (or how little) we have in our skin, we all are Black!!

No,I don't think so! I am a white female, and the men flirt with me just as much as the other women! I am so sure of that! Every one has their own preference, and that is what makes the world go round! One Love! One heart! Who cares about color? We all hurt, bleed, and die the same no matter what our skin color may be.I think it is up to the individual on how they treat a person. If there is color injustice in Jamaica, then Jah will deal with that particular ignorant individual.

I always wanted to say it..it's very true that there is a different treatment like for example there are uptown girls and downtown girls and it seems uptown girls are treated better or looked upon as high class because they had the money to be well educated or by certain things ( clothes, shoes..etc. ).

Then now the skin color thing..when I'm in Jamaica all I hear is browning this browning that and red this and red that..I never hear a boy say a girl is black and beautiful..Usually I hear " Da girl deh black and ugly e ! "

Even this guy who love me , he lives in Jamaica said to me that he's not dating nobody blacker than him. He only dates brownings. He never dated a black girl. It hurt me cause it's like what's wrong with black ? Most very dark skin people I see have the whitest teeth and are beautiful.

But in Jamaica color is not as bad as in America so Jamaica is alright. Some guys love brown, some love black, some love white and all in between. The only bad thing about it is the bleaching.

Like Queen Ifrica said " MY COMPLEXION IS BETTER DAN EVA ! MI NAH BLEACH IT OUT ! "

LOL

For someone who grew up in Jamaica, of course we don't have the blatant racism that Blacks in North America experienced but we have/had what you call "shadism". People of lighter complexion and longer hair definitely got better treatment. However, over the years we are more educated and our men grew to become more accepting and loved our "African princesses", strong black women as opposed to " the browning" that Buju Banton sang about.

No, there is no color injustice.Jamaica's motto is "Out of many, one people. The colr of the skin makes no difference.

As a white guy, I get stopped at roadblocks alot more often by the police....I guess they think I'm rich & need that payoff, or they think because of my long hair, I have drugs. But when asked for a search, I help 'em out cause you can never keep a good man down---Sizzla
