I doubt it. Yea and change your currency because they rip you off hard, and I do not know about credit cards

Hi I was over there in May and I used my visa electron card in the ATM'S at the banks with no problem. It was a good job they worked because I stayed on an extra week.
I've always taken pesos with me each time I've been, and dollars for the airport taxes,

No maximum they don't care the only people who may say something is airport security here, if its over £5000. I have been 8 or so times and always got a better rate in the Dominican than in England. Your cash card will work in the machines there anyway. If you pay in US dollars they convert it and give you whatever exchange rate they feel like, you are better to pay in Dominican Pesos. Dominican people are very nice but rip you off with a smile (I married one - I am serious) Yes they like American dollars but only because they can make money on them, you will be out of pocket.

There is a limit on the amount of cash that you can bring into the Dominican Republic. That limit is US$10,000.00. If you are bringing more than that, then you must report it and fill out some forms where you have to state information such as where the money came from, and a few more personal questions.

I am certain that you can use your visa electron card in the majority of places that you will visit, but you will also need to have some cash with you. My recommendation is that you either bring some cash with you, which you will then have to exchange (you will get a better exchange rate), or else, get money from an automatic teller machine (there are plenty).

It is best to use pesos, even though many will also accept dollars.

Bring a few bucks worth of your home currency whatever that is, and an ATM card. You get the best rates out of an ATM, regardless of where your home bank is. Use pesos for purchases, if you use dollars or pounds the shops will cheat on the rate.

I´m a tour operator, I advise to take some cash (US) and travel cheeks, this is the best way. never change your money on the streets! Change your money in "Change Banks" = Cambio this is safer. Do not change your money in the hotel, they give you a bad rate!
If needed just contact me!

have just come back last week from Dom republic had a great time. use the local currency as even though you can use dollars in shops they make up their exchange rate for it and you will always get the change in local currency. debit cards are OK to use out there just be care full as at home. they will work in the cashpoints and take about 3 to 4 days from use to get to your bank back home. if you are going to playa dorada find a pub there called Phil's bar had a few good nights in there and take the bar owner some bisto gravy he will love you for it. also at the moment you are charged 10 us dollars to enter the country and 20 us dollars to leave the price is due go up soon not sure when though so check with travel agent. this is best taken over in dollars.
