Yes and yes, although the majority of Puerto Ricans do not want to become independent.

Mr. Vitamin C
I would like to think so, besides the Puerto Ricans of the island dont seem to be aware where they are standing, savvy? Learn from Kosovo P.R. Its time for you to man up and become your own bloody country!!

shinningstarofthecarribean

Puerto Rico is moving slowly towards it's own sovereignty. While PR's economy is very dependent on US, It is also true that Puerto Rico is the only country in latin america that has zero to negative economic growth in 2006 and 2007. People in Puerto Rico are realizing that the economic system of dependency is turning Puerto Rico less and less atractive to investors while countries like Chile and Costa Rica have a bigger advantage than Puerto Rico has now.
The governing party has stated that the current political status needs to move forward towards Puerto Rico's sovereignty.

Puerto Rico can do the same? Yes we can.

Puerto Rico want to do the same? Only 5% want to.

I Speak the Truth
The majority of residents in Puerto Rico are brainwashed to be submissive to the United States. They are what we call in Puerto Rico ACOMPLEJADOS. They think they are lower than North Americans therefore they fear independence to death. Only a few would like to see Puerto Rico be its own country.

United States is a great nation but each country should desire its own freedom. I feel sad about my native Puerto Rico. They rather live 100 years as a sheep than 3 days as a Tiger.

No, because all that we have is from the United States and independence means that any other country could come here and take over and instead of democracy, there could be communism or a republic.
