JAMAICAN CREW (at least for now): What if? |
I was answering someone's question and I started to wonder something:
What if our local cuisine was replaced by hispanic food?
I say hispanic because we have french and italian restuarants already. But they are fine dining. What if hispanic food was sold like how we sell our food. Like what if they're were 15 hispanics store in each parish!!
Would you be upset!?
Would you think it's cool?
Cuz, it's like..I LOVE our local cuisine, our culture, our people and I'm kind of scared that because so many people Love Jamaica, want to live in Jamaica, or want to create business in jamaica, they will CHANGE our culture to the point that we forget who we were! I'm scared that we will no longer be the strong, influential, rich cultured people we are now!
What yu think? Have you ever wondered that? Additional Details Not trying to diss hispanic food cuz it taste really good..and i have plenty of hispanic friends..
The reason why I say hispanic because it has gone internationall just like Jamaican food. It is at the around the corner in the USA the same way that jamaican restuarants are around the corner!
So that's why i say hispanic food..
I hope no one who is hispanic or has hispanic heritage took offense to this!
It's just a WORRY I have with people(whether hispanic or not) from other countries who migrate to others, and want the whole country to change to there customs to suite there needs instead of the other way around.
But, you guys are right, i don't think i would have to worry about that at all!! |

i don't think it would matter. i think that is one of the things that makes us Jamaican, the ability to blend other peoples cultures into our own. Remember out of many one people. Look at roti, look at pizza, run dung, blue draws so many foods that we eat here were not from here, but were instead brought from or inspired by the homelands of the many people that now reside here. Even ackee was brought here on a boat.
We may not take it over entirely but we may incorporate bits and pieces of it into our traditional cuisine.
It would therefor simply give us a richer more diverse culture. |

I would be upset because I love my Jamaican food, there ain't no way thats gonna happen I'll be too angry...... It will be alright just to have 1 hispanic cuisine but not 15!! Thats like dissing our culture!! I love my Jamaican people too, and I think if we have so many hispanic cuisine in each parish people will forget their culture, hopefully that doesnt happen anytime soon. x I have never wondered about that because I know that Jamaican people are very cultural so maybe we don't have to worry too much... I LOVE MY JAMAICAN FOOD!! :) |

I wouldn't want to see Jamaican foods replaced by any other, but it's good to see something different introduced to our people. The fact is that Jamaicans are so very proud of everything Jamaican and most will not completely accept anything different. You will note than when chefs attempt to change or modify the style of cooking, most people quickly reject it, "A no suh Jamaican food fi cook! Mi no like how dat taste at all!" Don't worry, it will take a long time for the eating habits to change. |

1 or 2, but not 15. It would make us to improve on the quality and presentation of our dishes.
It all boils down to presentation and quality. They cant change our culture it all up to us Jamaican to keep our culture alive. |

You say if our local cuisine was "replaced" by Hispanic food. Why "replace" it? Surely there enuf room for Hispanic food as well? I no like it but a lot of people do. |
