I have just returned from Jamaica. Take US dollars, you get a much better rate. Also everything is sold in US dollars, so makes it much easier when buying anything. |

I convert my money to JA dollars. I find that things are cheaper when you pay in JA. If you pay in US dollars or pounds they KNOW you are a tourist. If you pay in JA I seem to get local prices. Convert your money at a Cambio or at the SuperPlus grocery store. The resorts and airports do not give a good rate. When leaving Jamaica, exchange your money back to your pound or US dollar again at the grocery store. The last time we were there the airport would only exchange 100 US dollars so we were left with ALOT of Jamaican dollars. US airport gave a terrible rate to change our money back. Have fun. |

It really really depends on where you plan to stay and what you plan to do.
Change some of your money to JA$ either from home or when you get to J'ca, keep some in your native currency. Depending on need and use, change more into JA$. The exchange rate is madness, when last I was there (September 2007), it was 1US$ = 60 to 65 JA$ (depending on where you changed your money).
Do NOT under any circumstances change your money at any of those 'street dealers', you can and will most likely get ripped off.
Enjoy the trip
p/s:- Do your best to use up all those 'coins' before you leave J'ca though. |

Hi Please take my advice on this one
Take your GBP with you and as you are staying in Mo bay there's lots of "CAMBIOS" to change your cash up with and not get ripped off
The exchange rate is better out there also.
Do not change £ for $ here like i said it better for you to get Jamaican $ while you are there .
Make sure you do NOT change up with the street dealers they will just rip you off big style .
Only carry what you need for that day OK . |

Use jamaican currency.
You are in their country you should use their currency.
I'm also from the UK, you will loose too much money converting from pounds to us dollars to jamaican dollars...trust me they will rip you off...I'm Jamaican! ...thats why they show many prices in US dollars.
Also you will not be able to use US dollars in all shops...if you venture out of the main tourist area. |

If you pay in English Pound or US Dollar it's bad ! When someone knows your a tourist they will try to rip you off. Seriously that almost happened to me but I wasen't dumb I figured it out before the guy could rip me off. The best thing to do is change the money to JA Dollar. Go to Cambio. |
