Jamaica Two Airports?

How is the one in Montego Bay differ from the one in Kingston in general?

Both are privately run.

1. Montego Bay runway is MUCH longer.
2. Montego Bay is at the west end of the island and the Kingston one is nearer to the east (3.5 driving hours away).
3. Montego Bay gets more international traffic because its in the tourist capital of Jamaica.
4. Montego Bay=Donald Sangster international airport (MKJS)
5. Kingston= Norman Manley International Airport (MKJP)

The airport in Mobay just went under a MAJOR renovation & exspansion ! It's SOOOOO much better now than it was just 2-3 years ago.....and no more getting off the plane on the tarmac !!

Alicia M
Actually they are both having face lifts

The attached links are from the World Travel Guide and give all kinds of tourist related info about both airports.

The Norman Manley International Airport is a better choice. Only the distance to tourist resort towns are far. But, if you love eco-tourism, flora and fauna you can land at Norman Manley. Hope Gardens, a beautiful large acreage of natual beauty you can enjoy. Adjacent to Norman Manley is the best unspoilt Port Royal town partly destroyed by earthquake in 1692. Fish, crabs, lobsters and shrimp, plus roast fish and the likes of sea food in large quantity are there. Having a peep at Port Royal before continue on one of the top 10 best nature built peninsula, the Palisadoes strip is awesome.

Jamaica boast one of the best most sheltered harbour in the world. It is a haven for freight or container carried ships of all origins. Naval vessels or cruise ships often visit the harbour.

Truthfully, Norman Manley airport is far from the resort towns in the north, but if you treasure eco-tourism, you are at the right place. The acronym JUTA buses are at the airport to take you. Ask them about the Hope Gardens, the large acreage of unspoilt beauty. Beautiful vast gardens and the national zoo, called the Hope Zoo. One of the regions best and largest University. University of the West Indies and the largest hospital in the Caribbean, University Hospital of the West Indies is a stones throw from Hope Gardens. You can trek to the Blue Mountains rising 7,402 feet or vist the near Mineral Bath or St. Thomas Bath Fountain, not far from the airport. Port Henderson (research on him) strip in Portmore has a distinct history as well. The hellshire hills are beautiful. The iguanas only place in Jamaica. Devon House is also beautiful. The best pastries, shops and exqusite luncheon areas with Jamaica's best delicacies.

Then rest at the best hotels, eco Strawberry Hills or the intown Pegasus, Hilton, and scores of others in the vicinity of New Kingston.

If I continue to tell you why Norman Manley International airport is a choice, Yahoo Answers would not have the space or memory available.

Montego Bay is also a best choice for just vacationary areas, of all inclusive beaches and hotels, and a litte travel away from the great Negril white sand beaches and drive in reverse (joke) to Ocho Rios.

JAMAICA, 'NO PROBLEM' you won't regret your travel and sightseeing.

renovations are better now than a year ago...bathrooms are dirty....be wary of the cab drivers waiting to take you where you need to go .we had a few ask us if we needed a drive and they litterly...REEKED of booze!!...I have only experienced Mo bay...so cannot compare..but have heard it is larger ...no pay phones that we could see...and the staff generally were rude/curt......please make sure your driver is not intoxicated..have a great time in Jamaica.......love it

Although Both are privately run Canada own Motego Bay Airport.

Montego Bay runway is MUCH longer. Montego Bay is at the west end of the island and the Kingston one is nearer to the east (3.5 driving hours away).Montego Bay gets more international traffic because its in the tourist capital of Jamaica. Montego Bay is a much nicer airport in terms of decorated.

Kingstons airport is said to be not as safe but i don't believe this one bit.Kingston's airport is smaller and there isn't as much shops.

The difference is that the one in Montego bay is where all the tourist go and its bigger and usually more packed. Compared to the one in Kingston which is not really as packed; I prefer Kingston better because its more convenient and the roads are nicer. It also depends on your location though I wouldnt tell you to go to Kingston if your staying on the complete opposite end.

Roshaad
Different locations ?

Jane R
The one in Montego Bay is owned by Canada. That's all I know
