Jamaica or Bahamas in November 2008?

I'm looking to take my girlfriend on a trip for her birthday and I'm debating on jamaica or Bahamas...I would like to hear from someone who has been both places.

Please tell me what to expect and what to expect to spend. Your experience would be greatly appreciated!

Jamaica!
My mom is Jamaican and I finally got to go to the country a few summers ago.
It was AMAZING.
Let me give you a suggestion. Go to the east coast, Sandy Bay. There's a hotel, Beaches, in Sandy Bay. I stayed there for the first part of the trip, it was BEAUTIFUL. There is a bar on the beach, karaoke, sailing, a pool beside the ocean (aha), outside restaurants, and almost every hotel room has a perfect ocean view.
I loved it so much.

As a note, it rains everyday for about 5 minutes, just get under a roof and chill back while it passes, and then you can go back. The weather is veryyy nice.

The city part is not the cleanest, some of it is rather junky, and there are quite a few beggars so learn how to say NO.

If you stay near the beach though, you have nothing to worry about.

The people are amazingly friendly and would love to talk to you.
Lots of beers and wines, it's quiet, it's paradise basically.

There are other hotels like the Rio, but that is a little more "upper class" and it takes away the experience. Beaches is right on the beach and is more laid back. At the Rio, you dine in a huge room and all that, but in Beaches, you dine right besides the ocean, outside (yet still under a roof, but you can choose not to).

There is also Sandals, which is perfect for couples. I can't tell you much about it because I never stayed at that hotel. I did visit it and it was beautiful as well. The water was much clearer than Beaches, and there were a lot of cute fishies [:

Whatever you do, DON'T go to Sandcastles. I stayed there for two nights and was NOT pleased at all with that hotel.

So go with Beaches for the full Jamaican, natural experience [:

Jamaica can be a little limiting as a lot (not all) of the hotels are all inclusive resort type hotels. Bahamas you can get out and about much more easily I would think the price would be similar check out Trip Adviser web site for hotel reviews.
Weather will be nice in both places so that's not an issue really.

everyone has diff. taste and interest. you can get a better answer if you tell what things you would hope to do and what accommodations you would expect on your vacation. have fun.

Ocean
I am visiting the Bahamas now (for the 4th time) and have spent 2 full months in Jamaica.
I love both places but in very different ways.
It depends on what you like.
I like nature and beauty so will tell you by my liking.
Do not go to Kingston in Jamaica...
My favorite places in Jamaica are Port Antonio and Treasure Beach. Not many people know of Treasure beach so it is truly a treasure. There is a little "resort" called "Jakes" look it up on Island Outpost. Very nice people and lovely beaches. Away from the city but a day trip to Negril (where you can hit up the Hednistic resorts if you are into that) there is more elevation in Jamaica, better land diversity.
In Bahamas it is very flat but the water is amazing. By November the water starts to cool down but still refreshingly swimable. There is "Atlantis" resort on Paradise Island if you want that or you can "rough" it and take a mail boat or ferry (or plane) to an outer Island like Eleuthera or the Exumas where things are more laid back. It's fun to go to the fish fry and mingle with the locals or you can go to the many night clubs in Nassau or just relax at the beach and swim.
Eleuthera has a most beautiful pink sand beach and the Exumas have wonderful underwater beauty.
I think tickets are about the same price either place you go...
Try www.kayak.com
or Spirit Airlines...
Hope you have a wonderful trip...

Jamaica! I have been to Ochi twice and it is so beautiful! There is so much to do. I went swimming with Dolphins and White water rapids. The parties are crazy too! They have a big beach party on either Monday or Tuesday. Wed. night at Margaritteville has free rum punches for 3 hours! Then there is club Amnesia with a dance floor on the roof. The locals are really nice just know how to say no in a polite way...remember your in their home so dont disrespect thats how they make their money.

Just Livin My Life
I live in Abaco, Bahamas and it's kind of expensive!! Like for instance...a gallon of Mcarthur milk is now $8.99 and gas is like 5.62 so you're looking at spending quite a bit. However, this is what we consider the ''slow season'' so you might find hotels a bit cheaper than earlier in the year. Jamaica sounds interesting, but that may only be because I've never been!! :)
