Jamaica vacation?? |
Okay..I want to know...
Is Jamaica the only island in the caribbean that is "filthy and poor" to tourists.
I've been to Jamaica and found the island to be very beautiful from the resort to actual country itself..it's an artpiece to me. Plus it's BOTH relaxed and party attitutude..you can choose whichever you want to be..
But, tourist keep saying Jamaica is so filthy..as if it's the most poor and filthy island of the entire caribbean..
People talk like they know Jamaica like the back of there hands..saying "Jamaica is messed up by poverty and drug trade.." they say that as if they read that out of a book instead of having there own experience..
It seems they have been scared to venture out...by hear-say..
I mean Jamaica is a THIRD world country..what do people expect?
What i want to know is...Is Jamaica the most filthy and poor island of all the caribbean b/c I don't hear anything about any other island...?
*Jamaicans..don't get offended. I LOVE jamaica..* |

No i don't think so nor believe such a thing tell who so ever to prove it un biasly.
We are having problems yes in terms of people just littering certain streets,in (Tourist Capital) Montego bay,But believe me when i say this our streets are cleaned everyday, however i must admit that people here are not really held accountable,i have always believe that our administration should introduce a garbage tax of some kind which would give incentive and also provide education for the masses.
However Jamaica is being spoken about in terms that leaves one ear in a different place, people seem to forget that Jamaica is only 10,991 km,were rich and poor communties are just a foot step away, and that just becuase they expected a first world US look it means that if there is even a fly around Jamaica is instanly called fithy,oh my god! what expectations.
How many people do you here talk about the bad areas of Baltimore,DC,LA,Chicago on a scale that they do with Jamaica, not because we are popular.
Jamaica is developing and yes its rough but what!,we are making progress.
I have seen so many comments on here, ""how"" i was scared! They kept on pushing drugs on me! ""what happen?"" only for them to say i am not going back.
OK,and even Marijuana yes its a problem, but what? some tourist do come for it, and there fore there is a perception that every tourist wants it.
Yes Jamaica has its problems with drugs however remember this too is hype out of proportion from some tourist and locals who visit/who is an expat over seas, that may give wrong info.
The media is also another reason for Jamaica's bad perception over seas like Homo sexuality,it is perceived that if your a man your gay you'll be beaten on the spot because of being prejudge, that's a lie i am Jamaican, and let me say something we are very conservative and also has to do with morals to religion, don't push any thing down our throats we have the right for our way of life, which make us Unique.
what a bout what others want for their kids to see so that they wont be confused.
However most of this stereotypical wish list is over exaggerated.
Notice when these persons speak they say Jamaica not were in! but Jamaica.
Trust me there are areas here that rival many rich communities in the states and else were. |

you said it all it's a thirld world country, I had been to Jamaica, I am from Dom, Republic, and my ex husband is from Jamaica, I didn't think it was filthy at all, I think everywhere you go, there's clean places, and dirty ones, but I won't never call it like that because that's the land of the man that I had admire all my life MR. First - to answer your question - No. Jamaica is not the only island that has poverty and therefore is touted as being "filthy & poor".
There are many locations in the Caribbean that exhibit the same thing.
Just as it is here in the good ole USA. The difference is that as we vacation here in the United States, we go only to the places of choice typically. We don't plan trips in to the "gettos" and the streets where our homeless reside.
The difference? The size of their country is certainly a contribuator to the difference. When we go elsewhere we want to "see it all". And we do. Only to mock them and attempt to spoil the adventure for others.
Personally - Jamaica is an island that I want to go back to. I have been to many of the islands and it is my favorite.
How can one go there & not get caught up in the "no problem" attitude. While there - one will actually find themselves believing there is "no problem". What a good lifestyle. What an inspiration to me their citizens were.
Smiles. Everywhere. Common courtesey everywhere. Respect. And it's all pure.
Go. Go to the island if you've never been.
See for yourself - you will enjoy. |

As a PROUD Jamaican I would say that Jamaica has it faults and what country doesn't? Jamaica is a small country trying to develoup. Honesly I would have to say that Jamaica is not the most advancved country but we are trying our best to to cut down on poverty and drugs.I <3 my country and would not trade it to live anywhere else. And yes other countries are equally poor......... lol |
