Jamaica - when is the best time of year to visit?

Also, if you have visited, which resorts are the best & which should be avoided?

I would say go during fall and winter months like November to April. You don't want to risk being there during hurricane season. Also if you live in a place that gets cold it will be a nice break. The north coast and the resorts north of Montego Bay like the sandals endorsed places are very nice and often use US money since it is mostly Americans there. They also give good vacation packages for these areas if you are on a budget. If you do not know anyone from there then I would suggest these areas and that you not roam to other parts of the country because the crime rate is high even though it is a beautiful place to visit.

In July because you can go to Sumfest. To hear a great outdoors music fest. All different kinds of performers perform there Americans and Jamaicans.Beyonce,Sean Paul,Kanye West and Ciara has been there before. The best resorts are Wyndham Rose Hall Resort & Courty Club in Montego Bay (which has a water park),Beaches in Negril (has a water park also) and Coco La Palm in Negril. DON'T EVER STAY AT CHARELA INN IN NEGRIL, IT'S THE WORST PLACE YOU COULD EVER STAY AT.THE PICTURE LOOK GREAT BUT IF YOU GO THERE ITS THE OPPOSIT.Trust me I've been to Jamaica more than 13 times, and I lived there for a year.

try applevacations.com they have great deals and the resorts they offer are usually very good. (don't go less than a 4 apple)

I go in February and August. I need to get away from the MI cold weather in February but my favorite time to go is in August. The rates are half as much, less tourist, the beaches arent as crowded and it is hot! The water is warm and its just a nice time to go. The first week in August isnt good because that is their Independce Day (8-6) like our 4th of July so the hotels are all booked. If you go in the spring be sure and book your plane tickets and hotel early because it gets filled up quickly. As far as the resorts go it all depends if you want to party or relax and have it quiet

Don't go during Hurricane season. I think that is from June to October but not sure. We went in May to the Breezes resort in Ocho Rios. I understand Montego Bay is nicer and more upscale. Our resort however was beautiful. All our alcoholic drinks, food, water sports, and everything was included we didn't need money. Just for souvenirs. The US $ in May 06 was worth $50 in Jamaican money.

Jamaica's low season (prices are generally cheaper) is May-November. But keep in mind this is also hurricane season and May-June and September-November is the rainy season in Jamaica. High season runs from Dec-mid April.

The Jamaican dollar is now worth 64-1 US dollar so it's a good time to visit. I recommend Jamaica Grand or any Sandals Resort. It would depend on your budget. There are cheaper resorts or guest houses/inns, right up to the very pricey all inclusive resorts. There are also tons of resorts that are in between. Of consideration is if you're travelling with kids and their ages. Also the size of your group and the departure date. August during sunsplash will be more expensive, and there is a rhyme you must remember -June too soon, July stand by, August a must, September to remember, October all over. This rhyme reminds you when is the likeliest time for a hurrican in Jamaica. eg Hardly ever in June, rarely in July, Almost certainly in August, Ditto for September, not likely in October. The rest of the months of the year are free and clear and very safe to visit. Always buy travel insurance, have travellers cheques and do not call the locals Natives-they will be MOST offended and annoyed with you. Here is a link to a middle of the line resort that is fairly cheap and has a kitchenette and dining area so you can prepare your own breakfast etc and save money. It's on a fairly nice beach and most of the locals hang out there as well as tourists. http://www.jamaicaresorts.com/turtlebeach/

Summer time. We stayed at Sandal Montego Bay and had a wonderful time. We got married there one year, and returned for our One Year anniversary. Lots of nightlife! Lots of food, drink, water sports! Just great fun! A very active place! If you want to just soak up the sun, and rest, not the place for you!!!!

December through to April. During this period you are will have more rain free days and the temperature is a lot cooler. In addition because the hurricane season is between June and Novemeber, you avoid the possibility of one of those affecting your vacation (the season is predicted to be very active). There are many hotels, but it depends on your budget. The large all inclusive like Sandals, Couples, breezes, Grand Lido will run you about $250-300 US per night. There lots and lots of smaller hotels especially in Negril, like Xtabi, Sunset at the Palms, Charella's Inn, Rock House, The Caves. It all depends on what you are looking for. A tropical feel. There is such a wide variety for you to choose from.

You R going to love JamRock b/w November-May... The weather is totally wonderful! I just got back from there earlier this month. Not thinking that the hurricane season had just started. I just needed a quick getaway! I love Jamaica but it rain the whole time I was there. I may have gotten 15 mins of Sun Shine arriving & leaving. But it didn't spoil my vacation & I still got out & did alot of things just in the rain. But I didn't get to lay out on the beach like I had plan too. It's ok, I got my Red Strip on & rolled me a "Fatty" & I was just chillin!
Now if you decide to go, don't get caught all up in the "tourist traps". And please please don't walk off w/anybody in Jamaica or a local "that wants to show u their pretty things". The craft markets are very nice. But I advise you to practice saying "No Thank!" The Jamaicans will follow & hound you to look @ the same things that all of them are trying to sell.
I've been to Negril about 4 times. Love it!! Stayed @ the Riu & Negril Beach all (AI). The last 4 times I was in Ocho Rio, stayed @ the RIU & Sunset Jamaica Grand & I meet some locals that I hang out with all the time now. Now if your money is funny you can stay @ Rooms on the Beach which is very nice & you are still on the beach & right smack downtown where everything is happening. Plus it's right around the corner from my Sweetie's Bar " TradeWinds Bar & Grille"! Great drink & food!! Tell Chris that Tracey sent you in to have a "Yellow Bird"! And don't forget to do the Dunn's River Fall Tour! Have fun in Jamaica Mon'
