Parmamag, you brought tears to my eyes with your patois rendering. It was so funny that I couldn't stop laughing. I think that would be overload for anyone who isn't Jamaican. Don't you just miss Louise Bennett-Coverley??? May she rest in peace.

Jamaicans speak English.

Below is an article on the diferences in American English and the Jamaican dialect.

San
The same way, Hi and Bye. The thing is that Jamaican english is like English itself it is just that most word are spelt and pronounced differently or substited.

So maybe if you dont want to say Hi and bye you can say

Hi whats up - Hay wah gwaan
See you late my friend - Later me friend

Jamaicans speak standard english. It is just that they have a dialect,Hi and bye are said in just the same way as we say them.

sweet_jemise
For hi u can say "whappen" or "wha gwan"... for bye you can say "mi will link u later" or "Likkle More", Mi will see you later, inna di lates, or Laterz. lol, my favorite is mi will link u later. There are also some other variations but these are more popular.. lataz

Jamaicans speak perfect English when addressing tourists, but their own beautiful dialect is patois, which is fascinating and musical. Wha gwan will work for hello. Likkle more means "see you later." "Every ting cris asks "is everything good/ok? Irie means good, great, cool. Just rely on your English and have a wonderful time. A smile is the same in any language.

hi and bye same as we.....parmamag....I am smilin hard......!!lol

genieva
hi aand bye are in the jamaican lingua franca but can be said in different ways
example hi: wha' gwan, long time nuh see you
bye: see u lata' respect' etc. so it depends on the context or familiarity. but straight up can be plain as saying hi

Gil
You could say *Yow! that's a street slang for Hi.

Bye, you could say *mi no da ya now* or mi gone seen, then the other person will say yea mon!

GlitznGlamour
Hon same as you: hi and bye.

We speak English in case you didnt know.
