I agree that there's some form of racism in our country, but it's not as extravagant as the USA.
Our country is considered "a rainbow country"... we have a lot of mixture of races, and racism is not a big issue as it use to be.
Different cultures and races always come together. We have non- Hindus and Muslims part taking in Eid and Divali. We have our mixture of races. We don't even know what our races are so we just call ourselves Trinis.
No going back to Africa, India, China or Europe... we're all citizens of a Beautiful country called Trinidad and Tobago. |

I agree with Siana. There is a lot of undercurrent of racism in our country. Some of us will actually go out and tell people that it is not so but it is.I believe that to say no is to be in denial.
The problem of racism would not stop until we begin to realize, as a Nation, that we are not Indian,African,Syrian,Chinese, and all the rest, but rather we are TRINBAGONIANS.
The only people who can call themselves Indian nd African are those who live in those countries.Open your eyes and realize where we are people.
We need to start identifying ourselves with our COUNTRY and not our ethnic background.I dont ever answers questions on forms that say race or ethnicity.I always wonder if they expect you to be anything other than human.
Be proud of who you are.We are a rainbow Nation. And what many fail to realize is that a rainbow only looks beautiful beacuse all the colors are in harmony with each other. And they aren't allowing their differences to harm the structure and beauty of the rainbow.
Happy Republic Trinidad and Tobago.GOD bless our Twin Island Republic.Much love to everyone...muahhhh :) |

I agree with Chara and Seana. The US is so huge that you will hear about alot more stuff like this, but it is happening there as well, look around!! |

there is some racial tension in our country..
Seana said "indians hating blacks" but WE ARE ALL BLACKS!
when a person of east indian or african descent is looked at from a white person's point of view, we are all black! we are all people of colour.
i am of east indian origin, but closest friends are african and i love my girls to death.
i have seen people look at me funny when they see me with them, some even have the audacity to ask why i was with "that kind of company" (they get real cuss), but guess wat, some people also ask them why they are liming with me!
why are they with this "coolie" girl.
it goes both ways in this country, but alot of times ppl keep it under low.
so lets not point fingers.
lets just all be happy dat we are not part of the problem, but rather part of the solution when they see how great we all are here and how ,much we love our country...

well honestly, im here jus speaking my mind, thats how i think bout the whole stupid ''racial thing" i hate it.
ms rumologist(lol) i have seen some indians "trying" to be white, so i guess there are some of them like dat, but not all..
im TRINI! |

Re$h I hadda disagree with you there chic.. & agree with Seana & Chara.. we all know that Indian people don't consider themselves black.. I don't know about all of them in trini hating black people, but we do know that there is some racial tension. From a white person's point of view, they may view indians & blacks as the same, but we all know from an indian persons point of view, they're far from black.. |

I don't see anything to laugh at concerning that situation.
There are things that happen in T&T that we don't hear
about on the news. As for the comparison of hate crimes
or as you say issues in T&T and America. I think that for the
most part we don't have it as bad as they do with regards to
racism and violence. |

sorry but i have to disagree, black people in trinidad are disliked by every group. and its even worst with the indians, they absolutely hate black people and for the life of me i cant understand y.
Now im not sayin its all indians that hate blac people but the majority of them do. Just let their son or daughter say they gettin married to a *****, or that a daughter is pregnant for a black man, the proverbial **** will hit the fan.
There is a wave of racial tension thats in an undercurrent in Trinidad. And its mostly because the crime rate is being blamed on the blacks along with all the other nonsensical reasons the other ethnic groups dislike black people.
So yes i do believe that there's not only "some racism" but the flagrant hatred issues. The moment a child is disowned becuz of being wit a black man/woman, that is no longer racism but pure hatred.
And like oceanc mentioned, y is anyone laffing? Like my grandfather would say... don't sweep ur cat s h i t under ur bed to go and point out that other people have cat s h i t under theirs. |
