i think that word is slang for 'molleto' wich means a black person. but it's not comonly used. is used mostly by americans of puertorican decent who have been imprisioned in new york city. they invented it.

no is not degradating. it just mean black person, is used as a reference, like, mira aquel molleto/molleta (look at that black guy/girl).

well i'm puerto rican and i have heard i before...but moyo is not a puerto rican word, and it is offensive because it's just a spanish word for someone black/african american.

First L
I've lived all my life in Puerto Rico and I can assure that we don't use that word, the only time i've heard that word was on the austin powers movies lol
Maybe "puertorricans" that are born and raised in the US use that word.
It doesn't sound degrating though.
;)

Well I found information of some places in Uganda, Africa named Moyo:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moyo_Town
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moyo_District

Aslo that Moyo means Heart or Soul in Swahili.

However, not sure if from this a group of boricuas or latinos pick the word and converted to slang.

I am latino and I have never heard of this word. However, a quick search of the dictionary says it is the male/masucline derivative of a Chilean colloquialism referring to a person as "guy" or "dude."

Perhaps in the correct context, it could be viewed in a negative light, just like "guy" could in English.
