If you havent heard about it then most likey its NOT commercialised.Infact they call it the best Kept secret of the caribbean/world and that place my dear is The Commonwealth Of Dominica or Jus Dominica *NOT THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC!.It is situated inbewteen the 2 french islands of Guadeloupe and martinque. It is called the Nature Island Of the World.Because most of it is still under NATURAL- (NOT MANMADE) vegetation and it has countless waterfalls-some still being discovered, numerous fresh waterlakes, 365 rivers ,top5 best coral reef; it is the world whale watching capital of the world;boasts of flora and Fauna and wildlife cuz most of it is protected by the natural parks. One Word to describe the island of Dominica-Green.I leave you with these (3) websites below to behold such splendous beauty. If you make Dominica your choice you will be amazed that an island like that still exists.

Curacao
- Swim in crystal clear water
- Dive/Snorkel all day/night long
- Nature trails to walk/bike/drive
- restaurants with all sorts of food
- parties/night life
- ostrich farm
- great shopping and sightseeing

Barbados Chick
I agree with Farai, Dominica would fit the bill.
They say Christopher Columbus described it by scrumpling up a piece of paper and that it is the only island he might recognize if he were to return today.
Lots of adventure and truely tropical.

For "natural" environments, I'd recommend Tobago or Dominica. They aren't over run by tourists. Tobago is probably as unspoilt as the Caribbean gets these days. I've been there several times and it's not Americanised like Jamaica or Barbados.

Belize sounds kind of nice.

My favorite place is St. John the Westin property!!
St John is a small Island you can rent a jeep and drive to all the beautiful beaches in the world. Very laid back. You would fly into St. Thomas then take a ferry over to St. John. I suggest you stay in St. Thomas at the Marriott also! You can set and watch the Cruise Ships at night depart. It is just beautiful at both Island's.

Go to Tonga or Fiji...beautiful.

How about a trip to Costa Rica staying at a "Eco Tourist" resort ranch?

misskate12001
The US and British Virgin Islands. You'll land in St. Thomas which is fairly built up but rent a boat (if you can sail that is) and you can head out to islands, drop anchor in a lagoon, and be the only ones there. Just you, sea turtles, palm trees, the ocean and the stars at night.

Loads of snorkling, scuba, kayaking, hiking...

If you can't sail, you can hire a boat with crew or just take a boat out to one of the other less developed islands like Tortuga or out to The Bitter End Yacht Club.

Go to Tobago in the south Caribbean, it's a paradise.

I'm a native Puerto Rican, and let me tell you San Juan has a lot of hotels, beautiful beaches, lots of places to eat that are divine and lots of stores.

If you go to Arecibo, there's the Observatory where the movie Contact was done.

Fajardo is a great place too. There's El Yunque in Fajardo, a National Forest. It's excellent, but you have to watch out you could get lost there.

Smaller Islands like Vieques and Culebra are super cool, the beaches are awesome.

If you like drag racing I suggest El Tuque in Ponce or Salinas Speedway which is 40-45 minutes from Ponce.

In Camuy there are caverns, which is cool too.

If you like surfing, you have to go to Rincon, they have awesome waves and the sunset are amazing.

I'm sure there are more places, but those are what came to my mind.
The Best beaches are the North East ones.

Puerto Rico, one of the best Islands in the Caribbean. It has beautiful sandy beaches, blue oceans, divine restaurants, there's lots do throughout the whole Island...Surfing in Rincon, BTW it has the best sunsets, exploring caverns in Camuy, there's the Observatory in Arecibo where the movie Contact was made. Ponce has El Tuque, which is a water park and has a drag racing track beside it, Old San Juan is pretty too, there's El Morro, an old fortress, Lot's of stores, great restaurants, Fajardo has our National Rain forest, very pretty, Vieques and Culebras with beautiful beaches....

There's lots to do, don't forget to try our tipycal food, it's the best!!!!
Also... it's the same currency, no taxes (yet), most people speak english...

Hope you like Puerto Rico

Check out Yelapa, Jalisco, Mexico. It is not an island, but a secluded beach town with lots of great accomodations. There are no roads for cars, nice people, good restaurants, and Puerto Vallarta is nearby. There's lots of information on the internet. Here is one website:

Check out St. Lucia. Not too built up, still lots of natural beauty. It's not too hard to get to from the east coast or midwest US.

Good luck with the Caribbean most things there are tacky tourist traps. You could try an off the beaten path country or dependency in the lesser Antilles. Martinique, Dominica, etc.
