Moving to the Caribbean, Advice?

I have wanted to live in the Caribbean all my life. I am from the US. I am wondering what some of the cheaper islands are that still have some good night life. Also what islands are easier to move to and get settled in. I don't have to high of standards so I don't need a huge house or anything fancy. Any advice for me?

Anyone who says St.Thomas or anywhere in the USVI does not know what they are talking about, and probably spent like a day on the island. It is NOT safe and crime rate is increasing rapidly.

I would say Antigua. Nice atmosphere. Nice people. Best place with EC currency that accepts US since a lot of places now give US change back. And the economy is doing very well. And I LOVE the night life.

Dominican Republic
- learn Spanish
- Drink Presidente
- learn to dance to Bachata and Merengue

its beautiful there, you can live cheaply although maybe not in the same style you may be used to here,
Cities to consider, Santo Domingo (best night life), Samana, Bayahibe, La Romana, Puerto Plata, Santiago(no beach, inland)

I assume you are financially independent so getting a job is not an issue.. but you will find that EVERYTHING in the Caribbean is expensive. Try Antigua or Bequia and their environs. Use that list that Yahoo provides of caribbean islands AND AVOID ALL 13 OF THEM... There are about 60 inhabitable islands in the Caribbean and most of them are a whole lot better than many of the names that are on that list.

Barbados is a good place to live with a vibrant night life. If you love night life so much you can try living in or near St Lawrence gap here. Maxwell in Christ church or any way along the south coast is a good place to live. It is also very easy to move here since we have lots of people from all over the world living here. Many stars and celebrities have homes here especially on the west coast. These stars include Simon Cowell, Caludette Colbert, Brian Lara and it is said that Oprah has a home here.
