It depends on how open you are to change. In some aspects, PR has pretty much everything the mainland has to offer, but then again, you have to remember that it is an island. Stuff takes longer to get here and prices are higher. Like most islands in the Caribbean, Puerto Rico is on Island Time, meaning that things go a bit slower here than the rest of the world but considerably faster that most other islands.
You'll have the beaches, rain forest, shopping, scenic drives, tons of activities, new territory to explorer plus a whole new language to learn in a mostly bilingual place. Lots of people in the San Juan area know english pretty well, but you'll always find someone that knows some english and will be willing to help you.
Try to learn as much as you can about PR before you get here, find out where you can do your favorite things here, where your favorite stores are. |

of course you can adjust. You must forget what country you're lving in...the USA! This country was built on immigrants coming from all over and adjusting to a new way of life. It won't be easy, it will be pretty hard actually, but it can be done. But it doesn't matter if it can or can't be done, what matters most is if you want to make the move or not. It's a tough decison to make and I hope you make the best choice for you and only you. Good luck! |

You'll be fine. You should absolutely go to Puerto Rico.
I think you'll find many people know some English since PR is a US Commonwealth. All of the Puerto Ricans I've met in my time have spoken very good English.
When you get over there, expect to learn a lot of Spanish quickly, (mostly day to day phrases and expressions) but then you will plateau for several months. Then suddenly your skills will get much better very rapidly and continue improving. |

It depend where you from and to where in PR you'll move to. The language is no problem. Most of the people there speak some English. Remember PR is considered US territory. And I know a lot of americans that visit the island and stayed there for ever. Don't worry, if you don't get ajusted just go back home. |

Shouldn't be a problem. Many Puerto Ricans, at least in the San Juan area, speak english. I even met quite a few people from California. I lived there for 3 years. You will love it. Most Puerto Ricans are very helpful and will try to help. And they don't speak mexican or regular spanish. I speak spanish and I had to learn to speak Puerto Rican, there was definately a communication barrier and like I said, I speak spanish. I learned A LOT of new "Puerto Rican" words, almost spanglish. Your boyfriend better watch out though, cause there are plenty of hot local guys!!!! I went for 6 months and stayed 3 years. The beaches and rain forest are beautiful, it's a chance of a life time..... you have to go, for at least a short while.... to learn all the history and see all the island.... you can even take a 30 minute flight to the virgin islands and a little less than an hour flight will get you to most of the other caribbean. Good luck and have fun! |
