I cruise all the time, never once had any problem of any sort that would cause me not to want to go back. I love cruising, it is the best way to travel.

The thing you have to tell her is to be sure to use common sense. Don't wander the ship alone if they have been drinking, stay with someone else whenver possible, avoid areas that aren't usually used, etc. There are risks involved, but cruising can be very safe if you just know what to do an what to avoid.

As far as sinking, I don't think you have to worry about that. If something were to happen, they have life boats and they legally aren't allowed to leave port if there isn't enough seats for every passenger on the boat.

Cruising is really safe, she will have a great time!

My family of four all got a stomach bug on a ship last year. Lots of people on my ship were sick & it did not make the news. I think this illness is underreported. The crew were handing out alcohol wipes left & right in an effort to prevent further spread of illness. I wouldnt go on a cruise until this problem is gone. Ruined the trip.

I have been on many cruises on many different cruise lines and on many different size ships.. they are very safe.. Unlike the days of Titanic, Andrea Doria.. the ships have plenty of life boats to rescue every in case anything happens.. and the ships are fully of top of the line electronics to keep it crusing away from harm.. (weather or other ships or floating icebergs) There is nothing to be scared of.. I'm afraid of flying more than crusing.. yes supposedly flying is the safest method of travel.. but I've survived car accidents.. but I'm betting that I am not likely to survive a plane crash... Tell your D-I-L that cruising is perfectly safe..

They are safe as long as there are no Islamists on them.

Well, I recently was on a cruise, and it was great. Just tell her to stay with someone if she is that scared. Don't go out by herself, and I am Muslim, so boo to the guy that answered so long as there are no Islamists? Is that even a word?

A Cruise is the most relaxing atmosphere to be in. Just be aware of your surroundings like you would anywhere else. Try it, you'll be spoiled rotten.

I had the greatest vacation of my life on a cruise ship.
Every once in a while you can feel movement. Just lean on the wall, catch your breath and go have fun!

i am scared to death of a cruise ship too. crap, every time i turn on the news people are falling over bored getting murdered, fires and sickness.

ed
well... according to the most recent news they are not as safe as one would think. Seems like crime rates in Cruises are raising and there have not been proper regulations or safety controls over them. (since they really don't belong to a specific government).

So basically ... they wont sink ... but you might get robbed, raped, murdered... or even food poisoned.

but they are a lot of fun !!!
