Where is the best resort to stay in Punta Cana DR?
Where is the best place to stay vacationing in Punta Cana DR?...

amber g

My friend and I are looking to move to a tropical location within the U.S. Perhaps the U.S. Virgin Islands.?

We are 23 and 24 years old- both very attractive and currently work in an upscale restaurant. So we would be looking for that type of work. We do not have our degrees. How much money do we need to make to live in that area? Will we be able to find good employment? Any suggestions are needed.

You two should definitely consider the USVI...St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix. St. John is the most upscale and, in my opinion, has the most beautiful beaches and scenery. I have been all over the Caribbean numerous times working on cruise ships and I would live in St. John if I could. Also, it's convenient because you don't need a passport or to exchange money or anything like that. Your cell phones will work there and it's easy to travel to nearby islands also. There are quite a few resorts there for work and if you have trouble finding something, several people take the 20 minute ferry ride to St. Thomas where you for sure can find jobs.

The Virgin Islands are expensive. St. John is the most expensive of the three islands and St. Croix the least expensive. St. Thomas is the busiest of the three islands and the economy is based on tourism. All three islands employ people at hotels restaurants, shops, etc. There are upscale hotels on all three islands. Hess has a refinery in St. Croix and many people are employed there.

I'd be very wary of living on any US territory, after one pretty dodgy year and a half stint I survived on Saipan, back in the '90's. US Territories are full of corruption and unfair business practices with lawyers coming and taking advantage of loophoiles.
By the way, we have Florida, and a wonderful Island state called Hawaii with far less problems. Both are tropical.

I don't know details but I felt very safe at USVI. And even though it got a bad rap I thought the safest island I've ever been to was Aruba. Stay out of Bahamas and Jamaica.
Hop onto realtor.com for ideas about rental prices...be safe, have fun. And go now...maybe you can get something before summer.

honestly, all the answers you've received a pretty right. We live in St. Croix. It's not easy but very beautiful. Keep in mind the cost of living is very high so you will be working to survive. Seeing it's just the two of you and no family, it can be done. Do some research for places to live. It is US territory but still can be dangerous as law enforcement is just not the same. I wish you all the best.

At your age and given your sex.. you should do quite well in the Caribbean. Waiting tables in an area rich with tourists is a good place to go... and there are LOTS of jobs like that... you may even want to get on with a CRUISE LINE... good luck..
