My husband and I are planning a vacation and can't decide between key west and St. Thomas (usvi). Any ideas?

We want to be close to the beach and within walking distance to local attractions. Cleanliness, location, price and ammenaties are most important (in that order).

I have been to both and I would recommend St. Thomas. It's a quiet, lush island. I stayed at the Marriott Frenchman's Reef, which is a beautiful hotel with nice ammenitites and a friendly staff. Key West was a bit too touristy in comparison with cruise ships in port daily.

Loved St Thomas and it is very close to other islands like St John that you can get to by short ferry rise and see even more islands ! I LOVED Trunk Bay on St John and went there on day trip from St Thomas...awesome place ! Gorgeous beach and snorkeling !

Go to St. Thomas, it is beautiful there. My parents went there (and they are really picky) and they loved it.

I would go to St Thomas. Plenty to do and the beaches are beautiful caribbean water. St Thomas is cosmopolitan with nightlife and resort action from water sports to top notch dining. The duty free shoping is the best.

Check out Secret Harbour Beach Resort . You can snorkel right off the beach. Close to the Red Hook ferry.
A must do is take the ferry over to St John, rent a jeep and explore the island. It's 2/3 Island Park with 39 pristine beaches.

Enjoy)

Key West isn't known for it's beaches. It is a fun place, though.

St. Thomas would be the choice for beaches [although St. John is even better!]. One thing to be aware of in St. Thomas is that it is a popular cruise destination, so there are ships there many days of the week [often several at a time], and this can lead to crowding downtown or at the beaches. If you've got the money, Caneel Bay on St. John is supposed to be excellent.

Go to TripAdvisor.com to see comments of past guests at the different resorts/hotels.

I would go to St. Thomas. I've never been, but I have been to Key West. Key West is like pretty much every other beach destination in Florida. Trust me, I've lived in pretty much all of them.

The keys beaches are rocky and not like island beaches. I would go to St. Thomas.
I have been to the keys, great place for fishing, but St. Thomas more exotic.
