Ayiti ak Repiblik Dominiken [Haitian Creole]
Haiti et la republique Dominicaine [French]
Haiti y La republica Dominicana [Spanish]
They mainly speak Spanish in the Dominican rep. and French in Haiti. Haiti was a Spanish colony then it was sold to the French. In 1804, Haiti become the first black nation indepent in the world and the second independent country in the Americas after the US.
Later on, Haiti went to help the Dominican repu. gain his freedom from Spain. Haitian and DOminican heroes abolished slavery in the Dominican rep and decide to make the island as one country. However the Haitian tried to impose their rule and culture on the Domincans and ruled the country for 22 years. It was not fair, and luckily the Dominican got their independence from Haiti. In order to protect themselves from Haitian invasion, the Dominicans decided to receive protection from Spain. Spain took advantage of the opportunity and exploit the country for several years
