Negril, Jamaican vacation?

I'm planning a trip to Jamaica at the beginning of the year and was just wondering how safe it is for tourists? I've heard many stories that it is not safe to leave your hotel and I just wanted to hear from people that have actually been to see if this is true. Also how is the beach and nightlife in Negril? And what are some good activities or places to see while there? Thanks!

I go to Negril a few times a year and haven't had an issue yet.. We go to the clubs at night, walk the beach, etc.. We are careful like we would be in any city. It is as safe as anywhere (any city) pretty much. The nightlife is fun, always something going on. Usually reggae shows at the beach clubs, The Jungle Night club is good too, Thursday night is ladies night.
The beach is beautiful. Crystal clear warm blue water. I am typically in it as much as I can be. Great for swimming. The cliff area is good for snorkeling. deeper waters and the cliffs are home to many different little critters.
Many activities to choose from. Mayfield falls, YS Falls, Appleton rum tour, Black River safari tour, Pelican Bar, cliff jumping at Rick's, and just exploring the town of Negril, both beach and cliff area.

for nightlife info, and the runnings in general..
Have a great trip!!!

well it is pretty safe to leave your hotel if you ask me, once you are not on you own.
plus negril is a wonderful place to Spence you trip, there is lots of beaches, dance clubs and much more. you should come and try it your self.

I think Negril is a great, romantic place. Just be cautious if you venture out from your resort. It's not as bad there as in other places like Kingston, but you should keep your eyes open no matter where you are at, or in what country. There are lots of things to do in Negril, from the fantastic beaches, open markets, Rick's Cafe where you can see Jamaican guys jump off the cliffs, etc. You'll enjoy.

Negril is excellent, the best beach around, 7 miles of white sandand crystal clear water. I spent a week there in December and another in July and I had an exciting time. Here you can see a video I shot about parasailing.

regarding safety, Negril is one of the more safe locations, thousand of people go there each day and leave perfectly fine. The beach is excellent, you need to watch that video..

Its very safe in Negril, theres actually more tourists there than any other city ( not alot stay in Montego Bay ) so theres alot to do there too, although it might seem like a strip in Florida...with watercraft, mopeds, parties, waterpark ( cool running ) etc.. Be aware though, there are hustlers everywhere trying to get money out of you...the beggers know where the money is so be prepared to say NO alot & don't expect that'll be the end of it.

Negril is a good place from what i hear from my cleints...but i advise everyone not to "explore the town" on your own or get in taxi...THe resorts are all nice.

IF you have any other questions send me a message

Negril is safe, but I'd encourage you to stay in the busy areas especially at nights. You should use the same common sense approach you would in Miami or The Bronx.

Kool Runnings Water Park is a great way to spend a day and Rick's Cafe is THE place to be to experience a beautiful Jamaican sunset!!
The beach is always a great option and you have more than enough places to choose from. You'll be able to taste some authentic Jamaican food that's sold in many places the long stretch of beach.

My company, Cool Runnings Tours Jamaica, offers ground transportation to visitors. Contact us should you need more information - info@coolrunningstoursja.com. Thanks.
