As a Kingstonian I resent that sentiment. Kingston is no more dangerous than London or NYC. If you are looking for a more native experience and not a sheltered resort experience then Kingston is a great destination.
There are a lot of parties and lots of sites to visit in Kingston. The Bob Marley Museum, Devon House, Hope Gardens, Emancipation Park, Port Royal to list a few "musts". Beaches are less than an hour away by car and you can do day trips to other scenic parts of the island from Kingston.

All said with the caveat that when you are in a strange city you should be cautious. Don't flash large sums of money. Be courteous to others.

I wouldnt go to Kingston not much tourism but I have been to Montego Bay,& Negril. Very nice beaches. As for places to stay Royal Decameron is a decent 3 star in a great location. All inclusive also. Country country in Negril is cute cottages on the beach with breakfast included also in a great location on 7 mile beach. Sandals mobay and Negril for a upper scale place you can read reviews and see maps at this link

Negril, Jamaica is nice but be a smart traveler, some guy tried to rob us on the beach and we had a couple of really weird run ins with people. It is a really lovely place though. The beach is beautiful and it's a pretty area with alot of cool people.

Negril, is the best place. No one has ever robbed me, if anything they have given me things for free. The people are so nice, and no one will ever hurt you. They are good people, and love children.

No disrespect yo kingston folks but if you're really gonna keep it real,we all know that kingston is not a really great place for tourists.The best place for tourists in Jamaica are Ocho Rios,Negril and Montego Bay,there are a lot more things for visitors to do in these areas.You could use montego bay as your base seeing that the airport is there,then you could go to Negril and visit Rick's Cafe' be sure to go at about 5:30 pm so you can hang out a little and catch the beautiful sunset,when in Mobay you can go to Margueritaville to party,you can go to Coral Cliff to enjoy the live band perform some Jamaican favorites,you can also get ur slot machine fun on at Coral Cliff.There are a lot of things going on on the hip strip in mobay.You can go to SCOTCHIES to enjoy some great jerk pork and chicken.You can also go to Ocho Rios and climb Dunns River falls.If you want liquor wait till ur going back and buy it at the duty free liquor store at the airport,it's cheaper there.The roads this side of the island are great you'll have no problems moving around these parts.

Yes,Jamaica is a beautiful country! Anywhere can be a place that is dangerous.Do not let that stop you.I always fly into Kingston,but my boyfriend picks me up and I stay with him(he lives in Clarendon).We stayed in Montego Bay last year at Toby's Resort which was pretty decent! It was also very close to the beach! Many souvenir shops as well! Negril is also nice from what I hear!Just stay with your sisters,and watch out for any scam artists!They are everywhere in the world,not just Jamaica! Have fun and just use caution and common sense like you would anywhere!

Dream Riser has a point. look let me be honest with you i am from kingston jamaica born and raised here, the reality is if you have the right person takeing you around in kingston then it can be fun, but i would'nt necessarly advise u and ur sisters to come to kgn on your own. however you can stick to the tourist areas, those places you will be o.k without a chaperone. a nice place is somerset falls in portland

Kingston is no more dangerous than other places in the world ? You refering to Bahgdad or Beruit ?? There is on average, 80 murders every MONTH in JA & most are commited in KINGSTON or Spanish Town !! If cities with the SAME population as yours had THAT many murders ( not to mention other crimes ) there would be federal troops involved ! And the people would be in an uproar.....guess your just too used to the staggering numbers. Thats a shame...

You know Jamaica is a party place with a lot of cool and dread lock rastas.There is a lot of good beaches and resorts in Montego Bay. Good choices of good hotels and affordable accommodations and lesser dangerous than Kingston Town. In Ocho Rios there is nothing except the Dunn River Falls and and a lot of locals sellings ganja in the street.Anyway,be careful and don't trust no one and don't do over limits thing. Enjoy you vacation.
