I loveddd Dominican Republic...it was so beautiful there!! But if you're a first time tourist then perhaps you may want to consider a place that is more American-friendly (meaning more English speaking, understanding of American customs etc. etc.)...perhaps then the Bahamas or Jamaica would be more wise. But if you don't mind those things, then def. Dominican...like I said, soo beautiful! Hope that helped!! :) |

i know jamaica is nice2! I would say jamaica. most ppl like it..njoi it tho! its very beautifull.
o here is some better advice..if you dont know spanish that well..and are better at english then jamacia cuz its english speaking
but if ur pretty good with spanish then try dominican republic4the1st time! its should be interesting to see how you will get around and it can be a great challenge! and let me tell u the food is good.

Both are great destinations for vacationers. The real question should be what do you want in a vacation? I always look for a resort that fits my wants and suggest you do the same. The resort is where you are going to spend the greatest amount of time so it is vital to get the right one for your wants.
I love to go to a website called TripAdvisor.com and search for my kind of resort. Decide what you want in a resort (they are NOT all the same) and go from there. You can do a tremendous amount of homework at that website and have fun doing it. It might seem daunting at first to find your perfect resort but, again, decide what you want and what you don't want in a resort. You can then quickly begin to narrow your list down to a manageable handful.
So, again, it isn't which island you want to visit, but which resort. Describe what your perfect resort will have and what it will not have and go from there. Have fun doing your research and have a great vacation! |

Since you asked about 1st time tourists, I'll assume you've never traveled anywhere...for that reason I'll also assume you want to be be pampered & not feel like your out of place. For those reasons I would suggest in the following order:
Bahamas : Expensive, but very tourist friendly and low hassle factor.
Dominican Repuplic : Moderate on expences, and beautiful scenery, but much easier to get around if you know spanish.
Jamaica : Fairly inexpensive & beautiful, but very "gritty" and be prepared to be hassled & huslted alot...though safe, you'll feel as if you want to stay on the resort, and therefore miss the cultural aspect. |

The Bahamas is boring, they are just a beach.
Jamaica is more diverse - great variety of foods, lots of activities and attractions, great beaches, beautiful scenery, warm and friendly people, top class accommodations.
If you speak Spanish then you may want to try the DR. |

Stay away from Jamaica. The people are high strung and there is a lot of crime in Jamaica. Go to "DR" They do speak English also. |
