Planning a trip to jamaica; a friend said you can't wear shorts b/c the natives will think you're a prostitute. that sounds crazy! Does anyone know if that's true?

LMAO. That's hilarious. When I say natives I mean people native to the island. Like I'm native to north America. Some people just search for a reason to be insulted. |

1. That is totally UNTRUE. Shorts are pretty much accepted in most casual environments.
2. Shorts on a young woman is niether 'here nor there'. Its no big deal. VERY SHORT shorts says that a woman wants to flaunt her sexy figure. That is also not a problem, and IS NOT percieved as having anything to do with prositution. You will just look really sexy. Men will stare, gaze and flirt.
3. In response to the person who posted thier 'bad experience' of being robbed on a taxi.... TAKE LEGAL (REGISTERED) TAXI CABS ONLY. The signs at the airport say this FOR A REASON. Some people try to save some pennies by taking illegal cabs and end up getting robbed. This problem is not unique to Jamaica. It happens often enough even in the more well developed cities of the USA. |

Tip # 1- Do not go there and call us natives, we dont like it. it sounds too backward.
Tip # 2- I wear shorts and pants and everyone else in jamaica wear whatever they want too so umm....the weather hot.

Rass lie dat, Jamaicans aren't shallow minded, daily you can see some of our sexy, proud, full of confident ladies strutting about in their spaghetti strap blouse and shorts or tight fitted jeans. They are hard working, respected, responsible queens, never no "hoe".
We have a tropical climate, where temperature is always in the 80s and 90s so we has little or no use for overcoats, sweaters, and jackets.
Be prepared to be complimented on your barbie like figure, relax and "fulljoy" your visit.
