Here is the correct answer if you are a LAPR and you are traveling from the United States to Puerto Rico for as long as you dont make a stop on another foreign country you are not making an entry into the United States. In fact you wont even go through customs or immigration when you land. Puerto Rico is a comonwealth of the United States (a territory).
The official definition of the United States is The continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, American Samoa, Puerto Rico and the Swain ISlands.
You would never need a passport unless you are making an entry. Flying to PR from the states is the equivalent of not leaving the States. |

Hi,
See my answer to your other question. If you have a valid green card, you can either use that as your ID for travlling (as it is a government issued card) or your state issued driving licence.
NOTE: The person that said you need a passport is WRONG.
I am a green card holder (living in Puerto Rico) and have never been asked to produce any thing other than a driving licence) |

No she is wrong. Going to Puerto Rico is NOT leaving the country b/c it is the USA!! You are fine going like that. If you want to prove it, call the airline that you are taking & ask them. |

No, you don't need a passpoprt to go to Puerto RIco. It would be like going to Florida for you. I was just there a couple of weeks ago. We also meet a lady who was in the same situation as you. The reason her and her husband went to Puerto Rico as opposed to another carribean island was because she didn't need to mess with the green card/citizen issues.
Puerto Rico is a US territory. They use the US dollar, They are issued US Passports, and most people do speak english.
Puerto Rico is an awsome place. Have fun.
If your into pristine private beaches, and total relaxation you should check out Vieques or Culebra... They are small islands off the coast of Fajardo... Un-spoiled goodness :) |

I can see why there is confusion in the previous answers. Basically, it depends on where you are at the moment. Since will be coming from the US, then you require no passport. If you were a US citizen coming from Central or South America or any other country in the Caribbean then you simply require proof of US citizenship or birth certificate so I do suppose a passport is a good thing to carry in that situation. And of course, if you are a US citizen arriving from any other country then you need a passport. |

La Flaca

No. Because you are not a US citizen, you will have to show passport when travelling |

Nope. Not the same. Florida is in the country. Puerto Rico you need a passport. |

No, it would not be the same. Going from NJ to FL is staying within the country. Going to Puerto Rico is leaving the country and you will need a valid passport to enter Puerto Rico and to return to the US. |
