There are 50 states, with Congresspeople and Senators and you can vote for the President

There is the District of Columbia ( aka Washington DC) which has a Congressman, called a Delagate, who can vote on bills in Congress, but no Senators; the people of DC can vote for US President

There are Territories or Commonwealths...PR, the US Virgin Islands, Guam, Samoa, The Mariana Islands; just like Arizona or Colorado or Hawaii or Alaska et alia used to be Territories before they became states ; we in the Territories have local elected governments; we have non voting Delegates in the House; no Senators, cant vote for President. We fly the American flag, have food stamps and US income taxes and Post Offices; and have dead and wounded in WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan etc; we are US citizens just like if we were born in Boston or LA.....but we are not states. There is talk in PR about applying for statehood with the island divided about 50./50; the Virgin Islands just mudldes along as we are, thank you very much.

It's not a state, it's a US territory.

ok. you have to be a puertorrican to know our status. it is not a state, here it is called a commonwealth. We don't have all privileges that have all in the mainland, for example we can't vote for the US president. In the other side, most of people here know english, we have american stores, and american restaurants. Legally we are not a state but we are like a US state.

until the vote themselves into the union, they're just a place that pays taxes but dosnt get to vote on the president.

they want to fly on their own, but dont have the testicular fortitude to kick off the Usa.

We got it from Spain after the spanish american war, and it looks like we're gonna keep it.
