OME!!! I'm Cuban!!! HAHA!!! Cuban food is real good!!! I don't think you should go to Cuba! It's not safe with Fidel Castro killing people over there and not letting them leave. His brother is taking his place when he dies! It's in ruins anyways!!! SORRY to ruin your plans just trying to keep you safe!

You can also try these resorts. Check and compare what might suit your needs and likings more. Sol Meliá resorts are excellent quality hotels:

Paradisus Princesa del Mar (Varadero)

Paradisus Varadero

Paradisus Río de Oro Resort & Spa (Guardalavaca, Holguín)

Meliá Varadero

Meliá Cayo Santa María (Cayo Santa María)

Meliá Cayo Coco (Cayo Coco)

Honestly, just about every beach in Cuba is gorgeous. The water is beautiful and clear turquoise...the sand is soft and white.

I would strongly recommend "Super Clubs Breezes Jibacoa" I have stayed in this resort twice it is a 4 * the variety of food was great and the quality was great the beach is very nice has excellent snorkelling right from the beach (this is rare in lots of Cuba) the staff is excellent and it is a true 24hr resort the bar well one of them never closes.

It is also halfway between Havana and varadero which makes it great for excursions to either place. And there is a small town I think it is Santa maria del Norte which is a 15 minutes scooter ride away.

And along the highway to Santa Maria is the best and I mean the best Pina Colada in Cuba it is made with homemade coconut ice cream yes ice cream not milk. When you buy it 2.50 cuc the guy brings you a glass with ice cubes filled with coconut ice cream and he puts the bottle of rum beside you on the bar, you gotta love a country like that!

Your best bet is to check out

Many of the hotels that call themselves 5* aren't really, but I think several of those listed here would meet your requirement - I hear the Paradisus in Varadero is good, and also the Royal Hideaway on Cayo Ensenachos. (Santa Maria)

[Strange how so many of those who call themselves Cuban seem to know so little about their country.]

We went to Paradisus Río de Oro Resort & Spa (Guardalavaca, Holguín) it was fantastic, the food was brilliant, the beach and snorkeling fantastic. The people are wonderful. We had no trouble at all, Cuba was wonderful and we would go back tomorrow. Fidel Castro didn't kill anyone in our hotel or surrounding area, which seems to be a concern from a Cuban on here.

This is the only hotel we have been to that offers 5* and actually delivers 5* treatment and service.

As Mickie 12 posted gran Playa Turquessa would be an excellent choice. you can check the reviews below. Safety in Cuba is not an issue. Cuba is probably the safest destination in the Caribbean. I've made 10 visits, wandered around at all hours and never felt any discomfort. Go and enjoy, you'll love it.

hmm it seems to me that if you're going to go to Cuba, taking the 5 star route would be a waste of time and money. If you want 5 star, go somewhere else. if you want Cuba, stay among the people. Find a cabana near a park to rent, one that sits on a beach.

In miami beach you can find some. Check the yellow pages
