Real people & real salaries for Puerto Rico ?

I recently saw that a registered nurse was only making about $5 something an hour. This came from her and she had no reason to lie in the forum I saw it in. She also went on to say that the salaries were horrid in P.R.

Please list your occupation and salary.

I'm interested in coming down to work, but need first to find out about this.
I am a Motorola two way radio tech., 23 years experience, we are a dying breed and an experienced one such as me is hard to find. In the states I could make around $22 an hour. Entry level tech maybe $15 or so.
What can you tell me about this?
Additional Details
She also went on to say that a large majority of the people rely on the gov't. for support ( welfare ) or whatever. This , I understand , IS her opnion. Is it that bad salary wise ? I'm confused as i thought it would not be as bad as she makes it out to be. It is after all part of the US.

Puerto Rico its a beautiful island but just like Hawaii, extremely expensive and a lowsy pay. Hawaii pays good compared to PR. The problem in PR is that the cost of living is high and the wages are not worth working for so people notice how hard its to work for basically nothing and get government help by getting welfare. Ive heard people in PR say: if im going to get almost the same amount of money from my job that I can get on welfare, then its better to get money for free than leaving your behind in a job that its worthless working for. So people rather dedicate time with their family (children at home) not work and get money anyways than having to go to work, loss time spent with their families just because you are getting paid so little money for all the work done. PR requires so much education such as bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees so people could find a job that pays so little its pathetic. In the US you can get twice as paid with an Associates and a Bachelors degree. I say Puerto Rico its only good for retired people from the states that have secured money and can live in a tropical island and feel like they are vacationing forever, but its not recommended to live in PR if you have lived in the states before, you will never get paid the same. PR public schools are so badly in terms of education and security for the children that people have to pay lots of money for private schools, some parents even work in private schools in order to have a discount or their children for free, thats how bad it is. What you can do in salary for a month, it can be twice what you pay for your childrens education. Im sorry, but if I were you I would reconsider and think things clearly so you wont regret it later on.

Yes my mother in law is a LPN (nurse) & makes $6 per hour. She was full time & they had to cut her back to part time. My stepdad is an electrician that also makes $6 per hour, but he doesnt have a license. Now the cost of living is cheaper than most areas of the US, but it is still hard to survive on those salaries. The US is in a recession so that means PR is too. Research what you will make, if there are jobs available & your cost of living before you decide. PR is a lovely place however.

Most people get minimum wage no matter where you work in PR unless you study alot or a trade and work in mfg or open your own business. My husband is a copier tech that easily in the US makes $20 an hour plus, in PR $8.75 an hour. The only thing that is cheaper in PR is your rent and that depends on where you live basically anything else is more expensive since we are an island and need to have most things imported. Another example...my mom has a masters in psychology and is working on her doctors and is making 13.00 an hour. Some people are lucky and get good paying jobs but its not easy. But even if the pay is not good everything else makes up for it, the weather, the people, the views, its not for everybody but I love it here.

If you're looking for a high salary in PR you'll probably need to become a politician in PR, they are the ones that make the big bucks. I'm about to graduate from electrical engineering, and the average salaries are 35K/yr, now thats horrid, thats why most of us recent graduates are moving out of town to the states to look for better salaries, its sad but its a reality. 22/hr in PR are a rarity, maybe in your case, it'll work, now I've heard of computer engineers making somewhere around that. So I guess you'll need to come down here and find out while on interviews, if they give you any, because I recently went to a local job fair and I could not understand the fact that most of the companies were American and interviewing while the PR based companies, were just handing out brochures and not giving any interviews.SAD SAD.

No nurse here make that kind of money, is true that as a nurse you can earn more in the continental US, but in here a nurse is over $7.00 or $9.00 per hour. I work as a Security Director Assistance and I earn $27,500 per years and that is just the beginning since I just have 5 months in the hotel I'm working for.

I studied Industrial Engineering. I work in a pharmaceuticals mfg company in a Computer Validation position. I am not paid by the hour, but if dividing my pay check by the equivalent 8 hrs/day it would be $34.65.

Not a typical salary, the pharma industry is probably the top paying industry in the island.
