Recommendations on a tropical vacation spot?

I am looking for a recommendation on a good tropical vacation spot. My wife and I have been to Aruba, St. Marten, the Bahamas, St. Thomas, San Juan, Los Cabos, and Hawaii (Oahu, Maui, and The Big Island). By far our favorite vacations have been to Hawaii, but the price of air fare puts that out of our budget range this year.

We are looking to go somewhere we haven't already been that is tropical, has a nice laid back atmosphere, has good beaches and snorkeling, and will not break the bank. The duration of the trip will be one week.

Any recommendations on an island, or location, and a place to stay would be much appreciated. BTW, our budget this year is in the $3k range.

Thanks in advance.

I recommend you go to Brazil. It is summer there right now and you can get to gorgeous beaches for this price. If you pick a location that is not so popular as Rio, for example, you'll stretch your budget considerably. I love Florianopolis, the capital city of the state of Santa Catarina in Southern Brazil. It is a big island-city with 42 gorgeous beaches. It may be a bit crowded from right now until Carnaval, but it is still well worth the trouble.

Hawaii has some great timeshares. The big island is beautiful. Kona, specifically. Check out on Craigslist for place to stay for cheap. People are trying to sell timeshares because of the economy. Take the cheap rates while you can! And if you book early on airlines, fly standby. There are always seats with the economy how it is, and you can get a CHEAP CHEAP flight, and still make it to your destination. Make sure you don't check your bags if your flying standby or else your luggage might not make it all the way there. It might end up on the other side of the country!

Curacao is very nice. Even though it's part of the same chain as Aruba it has a very different atmosphere, better snorkeling, and an excellent aquarium. It has nice beaches too. Lagun Beach is an excellent one for snorkeling because it's on a narrow bay largely sheltered from the waves and currents. We saw a turtle just a few yards out from the beach there.

You could probably still go to Hawaii on a $3K budget if you don't stay at a five-star resort. I don't know where you're flying from, but I found fares as low as $372.99 to Maui from here in Phoenix, and there are condos for rent in Kihei that are relatively reasonably priced.

Dominican Republic is the number one most visited destination in the Caribbean because it has numerous beautiful all-inclusive resorts. The beaches are great, and each resort has plenty of things to do.

You go there if you want to relax and have easy access to activities right on the resort property. We liked it there more than Maui, but each experience is personal.

I recommend Silver Sands Resort in Jamaica. Have stayed there three times with family and loved it. Very affordable, especially when compared to some of the fancy all-inclusive places. Each villa includes a cook/maid, so you don't have to worry about anything, just let them know what you would like. The beach is private and very close to most of the villas. It's a great place to go if you want to relax, and they also have an Events office to help you coordinate day trips if you want to go to the Luminous Lagoon, horseback riding, etc. Everyone speaks English, "Ya Mon!", and they are very friendly. Montego Bay has a lot of good direct flights, if you live in the right area. Many villas can be had for less than $1500 a week.

Highly Favoured
You can come to Barbados since it is a lovely island with friendly people. It is tropical and has a very laid back atmosphere, in actual fact it has all that you want.
