I see alot of web site saying I can probally get away with it. Will I? And is it safe for me? What kind of clubs are down there? WHat is the nearset beach area clost to downtown Havana. And any other usefull info someone can offer. I LOVE TO HEAR FROM SOMEONE WHO IS AROEUND MY AGE AND AS DONE IT. my other main concern is I DO NOT WANT TO GET INTO TROUBBLE. Is 3 days enough for a first time? I also hear I can not use my AMERICAn credit card. Thanks for the help.

THe TRUTH?

There was a time folks would do it often.

Withthe Bush Administration they are actively looking to charge Americans for going with criminal prosecution and very large fines. QUESTION- Is it worth it?

Gussie
I've read reports of US citizens getting caught using Toronto, Montreal and Nassau. Instead, I'd use Cancun, which is cheap, or Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Cherry_Blossom
US drawn credit cards and american express cards and american travellers cheques are not accepted. Best way to go is to go through Toronto or Montreal. You do not want to go to the beaches in Havana, I would suggest staying in Varadero (about 45 minutes away) and going into Havana for a few days. Crimes such as pick pocketing and such is a major problem there...stay safe!!

No problem(I DISAVOW ANY KNOWLEDGE OF SAYING THIS.)
YOU CAN visit Cuba, fly to a Latin or another country, get a visa, and fly to Cuba, so instead of you flying straight from, say MIAMI, YOU'RE flying to a Latin American country and flying to HAVANA, THE BEACHES ARE VERY NEAR from anywhere you are in CUBA, you should not worry how to get on to the beach. the planes land near the beaches. HAVANA is an island, so no matter where you look you're facing the ocean.
the beaches are so beautiful, lots of BARS on the beach. tiki bars, swim naked if you want. drink lots OF HAVANA RUM, SMOKE LOTS OF HAVANA CIGARS. SPEAK Spanish though. or practice your broken English.. pretend you speak french, or other language. if they see you coming from AMERICA, THEY WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU, financially. NEVER NEVER, FLASH AMERICAN MONEY, OR DO NOT wear gold Jewel, no, no, lots of people from Africa, Europe visit CUBA,

I just returned from. I was there 9 days, and I can honestly say it is unlike any place I have ever visited. I was in Havana 5 days and in a section of the Island called Pinar Del Rio for 4 days. I flew to Cancun and took a plane from there to Cuba. I had a large SLR camera visible, so I guess I set off red flags everywhere and they interrogated me for about 5 hrs, but other than that, I had no trouble. If you want to visit beaches, Varadero is nice, but very 'touristy' in the sence that everything is overpriced. Right now, there are alot of police on the streets of Havana, so it is very safe. In Havana, atop one of the hotels, there is a bar called "Casa de la Musica" which I highly recommend. Make sure you withdraw money from either the US or Mexico if you go that route, because it is true that you can't use your credit card. If you decide to go, enjoy!
