Relocating to Puerto Rico? |
I know you do not need a passport to move to PR, but what about a visa? I know most countries require a visa to work there, but does PR require a visa for work? If anyone can find a US government website on PR that specifies the answer to this question please provide! Additional Details I'm a U.S. Citizen. |

Hi
If you are a US Citizen - you do not need anything else (paperwork wise) to work here in Puerto Rico
If you are a non US citizen you will need a Green Card to work in Puerto Rico (just as you would need a Green card to work in the USA.
Think of Puerto Rico as just another State of the USA (when it comes to travel and work). I know it is not a State but a commonwealth, but for travel and work it's similar to a State
I did a post on my blog about relocating, that might be helpful

You don't need a passport or a visa to recolate in Puerto Rico if you are a United States citizen. You will need a clean bill of health, a good police report, a good driving record, and a good carrier/custom laws broker in order to ship your goods and car to Puerto Rico. |

PR is a US territory and there is NO requirement of a passport or visa (of any kind) to travel there or to live or work there. HOWEVER, you need to take your passport as a practical matter due to increased security. Even though you may get away with going there without it, US authorities will require it to get back into the US for security reasons. You do have to be mindful of local PR taxes if you will live there permanently or semi-permanently and earn money there. If you work there but receive a US paycheck at your US address from a US company you probably don't have to worry about local taxes, but I'm not 100% sure. |
