It's gorgeous...great beaches, great restuarants, and great scuba diving. If you're a diver I'd recommend Saba. Also, the casinos are a good time.

Go shopping, swimming, and sightseeing

make sure to visit Maho beach during peak hours (check the surfboard for the sceduled heavies), and take a trip to saba or st-barthelemy.

I would recommend snorkling.

For dining, I would highly recommend the Saratoga restaurant, its on the Dutch side down the road from the airport. It is a little pricy ($50 per person, with a bottle of wine split 4 ways), but the food was worth it. I would NOT recommend the Paris Bistro as a dining option, it is located near Maho Beach. If you're not looking for an special dining options, McDonalds, Burger King, and Subway all have locations on the island.

Visit the Guavaberry Shop in Phillisburg. They make fabulous rum.

If traveling by taxi, do not call for a taxi, hail one. To me, it seemed as though the prices for hailing taxis were less than when you called. Ask for the fare cost before you get in, and its easier to walk away from a high fare if you hailed them rather than them being called to your location.

Make sure you visit Maho beach and stand under the large jets as the fly over your head at about 50-100 ft.

Most places accept credit cards. Make sure you have enough cash with you when you arrive, as using an ATM can cost you near $20 in fees.

The jewlers on the island operate like car dealerships in that "no one actually pays sticker price", you can get them to come down a lot on the jewlery.

We did not rent a car, but one thing I would've liked to do was rent one for the day, and just drive around the island.

Its a great place to visit, lot of things to do,shopping, water sports, entertainment, and so much more.
Lets not also forget the weather,at this time of the year, its going to be fantastic.lots of good deals on hand about were to eat and so on,meals are also excellent,so , shop around.not every one may have the same experiences though, but that only a small number.
Oh, get a map of places and things to do,it will be handy.

St Maarten/St Martin is fabulous. As far as which side is best for you I'm not sure until I spoke with you if you would prefer the French or the Dutch side.

When you say planning a week there, I do hope you have found yourself a good travel agent instead of trying to put this together online yourself. With a travel agent, we can give you honest opinions on resorts/hotels to stay at. A good agent will be honest with you because hey I know for me I want my clients to have a fantastic time otherwise they come back upset with me and I don't want that =)

Also we can look at various vendors to make sure we are finding you the best price for your hotel and airfare and save you all that research time yourself. We also work with vendors that specifically only work with travel agents. Plus you have a go to person to answer all your questions, concerns, etc. instead of having to contact an 800 # waiting for the next available res. agent.

Agencies don't take on commission either like some people think in popular belief. If you book through a vendor directly you pay the same cost, however that company makes more money because they aren't paying an agency. Several agencies do charge a minimal service fee and this is for the numerous areas we search to find you the best price based on your dates and hotel you want to stay at.

If you like feel free to email me and I can send you my contact info. I would be happy to help you in planning your trip to the Islands! No matter how you decide to book this, have a fantastic time!

Well St. Maarten is unique. 2 different countries in one and you can move freely. Duty free so no sale tax. You can always beat down the stores for better prices. Beaches, beaches, beaches. Great Nightlife, Bliss, Sunset Beach, Kuta Beach, Bambo Bernies, Q-Club. Great restaurants all depends on what you feel having. Local foods is also great. Visit the Guavaberry on Frontstreet....local drinks. Casinos Casinos Casinos. The hotels is great. You have the option to rent a car or take public transportation.

There is so much to do on a tiny 37 square mile island. You can even take the ferry/plane to Saba, Statia, St. Barths, Anguilla. Beautiful islands.

Gosh I can go on and on.

We stayed at the Maho beach resort and found it beautiful and accomidating. The beach was great fun as the small but strong waves knocked us over. Go to town for some shopping, you can make great deals on jewelry. A carton of cigarettes was only 8.99 and a bottle of Captain Morgan rum only 6.99. We went in Feb, and the weather was gorgeous!
