San Juan...Is this hotel a great place to stay? Is the area in walking distance of the shopping malls?

and where the tourist go to take tours?
The Sheraton Old San Juan
100 Brumbaugh Street • San Juan, Puerto Rico 00901
www.sheratonoldsanjuan.com
It says its The Sheraton Old San Juan is a delightfully captivating upscale hotel in the heart of picturesque Old San Juan, a city as rich in history as it is in culture. A completely unique location highlights spectacular views of the bay and puts you mere cobblestone away from 16th century Spanish fortresses, fascinating museums, art galleries, restaurants and world-class shopping.
From its uniquely Spanish-colonial architecture to its comforting in-room amenities, the Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel offers guests the perfect blend of Old World charm and New World elegance.

AM I STAYIN IN THE RIGHT AREA. IS PLAZA LAS AMERICAS IN WALKING DISTANCE TO THIS HOTEL? I KNOW I HAVE TO TAKE A CAB RIDE FOR 5 MIN OR SO TO GET TO THE BEACH RIGHT?

Hi!
I used to work at that hotel when it used to be a Wyndham 6 years ago. The location is great if you are taking a cruise because it is right in front of the piers or if you plan to spend a lot of time in Old San Juan.

The good thing is that you will have nightlife and a wide variety of restaurants for every budget within walking distance. The beach will be a short cab ride.

The hotel is located in the Sount entrance to Old San Juan. You will be in walking distance to all historic sites in that area. Some might be uphill and may take you more than 10 min, but there is a free trolley available.

There is a lot of shopping, but it is very directed toward tourists. Plaza Las Americas is the best mall ever. I live in Dallas, I travel a lot and I have not seen one as big or with the same or more variety. But it is not within walking distance to anywhere worth staying. You will have to take a cab, it will be about 10-15 mins because of the traffic. But distance wise it is very close, but not to walk.

Ask for the 8th floor when you check in those are the deluxe rooms with a small balcony. If you reserved doubles then you will not have a view because they are all in the back of the bldg. That might have changed, but it is worth asking and getting the best out of your experience.

Hope you have lots of fun and that I was of some help!

truth is unfair to the Old San Juan City. it's a city full of history and very beautiful. to go to Plaza Las Americas you have to take a taxi, because it's a little far. also, for the beaches you have to take a taxi. One nice beach it's at El Condado, not that far from Old San Juan. Also, OSJ have a nightlife that goes until early in the morning. As in any big city, ask at the Hotel where you can and where you shouldn't go. Remember, it's not Bagdad, but neither is Disneyland. In every hotel you have a Kiosk that have information and offers for the tours. you can try snorkeling or windsurfing. Enjoy all the beauty of OSJ and I hope you have a nice stay. And don't be afraid to try new things.

I like this hotel. another beautiful hotel is La Concha in Ashford Ave. San Juan, Puerto Rico. BUt in both hotels you have to drive to the nearest mall, Plaza Las Americas. It is about 7 to 10 minutes trip in car, but you have to take highway. so you have to rent a car.

Hi! This hotel is in Viejo(old) San Juan. I never stayed at that hotel, but being that it is a Sheraton, I am sure it will be pretty good. Old San Juan is beautiful. You will be very close to all the historic sites(like El Morro Fortress) & to lots of resturaunts, stores, museums & pubs. You will be able to walk to places easily. Yes to get to the beach you will need to take a taxi or bus ride about 5 minutes to Condado or 10 minutes to Isla Verde. No, Plaza Las Americas is not near you. It's in the Hato Rey section of San Juan, its kind of far. You definitely can't walk, but again you can take a cab. If you want to see the Bacardi Factory Tour, you can get a ferry to Catano. Anything you want to do, I am sure your hotel can set up for you. But you will never get bored there is always something to do or see in Old San Juan :) Enjoy

These maps need to be bigger- but this might be able to help you see the layout of the area. Anyway your hotel will probably give you a magazine called Que Pasa that will have maps.

Plaza Las Americas (located at Hato Rey) is not a walking distance from/to any hotel. No matter if you are staying at Old San Juan, Condado or Isla Verde areas, you will need to take a bus or a taxi to get there.

I was never there but the hotel itself I heard is really great. The only complaint I heard was that the rooms can be noisy (noise that filters in from hallway or outside) so you may need earplugs! Food is great, atmosphere is great, staff treats you well, etc. Hope that helps. My friends were just there recently.

There are so much beautiful places to in all the world.San Juan its not the greatest thing on earth honey.I know I am from there .Why you think I came to United States? its beautiful big so much great things to see,its woow.In Puerto Rico there is nothing there spectacular that is worth atrip really .India is better,Japan,Italy,Spain. If i were you I change itinerary if you want to go to the caribbean still try Santo Domingo way nicer than Puerto Rico.Jamaica spectacular views.Honey I am puertorrican who better than I to tell you the truth.I see reality, too the men are ugly too .Honey there is nothing to see there. This is my very sincere opinion.I am a native why you think ton of us are here in usa? its greatttt!!

I see reality Iam not blinded like many people will say that trashwith all arrogance ahhhh its my country its the best.ITs not!!.Honey super careful around San Juan weell but if you compare it to Afghanistan or to any arab country is really safe trust me really safe.We dont explode bombs there never will see strong politicals riots that is true like you see in Venezuelaor Colombia .Puertorrican people are very peaceful in that sense but honey tons of crime and drugs .Be careful!!Puertorrican are very coool people what sucks is the country the buildings you know too simple nothings like wowwww!
