San Juan Puerto Rico Or Miami Beach - Which Is Nicer For A Beach Vacation?

I've never been to Puerto Rico, but have been to numerous beaches in Florida.

If you like strong waves, so strong they pull your swimsuit off you, so strong there's a need for lifeguards on the beach, getting up early to catch the beautiful sunrise, take the east coast. If you like waves that are much easier to 'play' in, you like to go further out in the water, or dig for sand dollars and such, take the west coast.

I personally like the west coast best, the St. Pete/Clearwater area. The beaches are nicer, too, most of the beaches on the east coast have too much traffic, like a highway. In the St. Pete area, you don't have to worry about you or your kids getting run over by a car while playing on the beach. About the most traffic you'll see is the coastguard four-wheeler every now and then. And you can sleep in, and still see a beautiful sight when the sun sets over the horizon of the ocean.

Miami is a good touristic place. But Puerto Rico has more variety. You can visit many beautiful beaches in your vacation since everything is so close. If you want something different you can go to the tropical forest, caves etc. If you want to stick to a beach vacation i will highly recommend Culebra, an island that belong to P.R., it is just couple of hours from mainland and to get there you take a ferry from Fajardo ,P.R.
This little island has amazing reefs and it's Flamenco Beach has been is the top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world.

I have been to both and Puerto Rico is definitely better. It has a lot more history and culture than Miami. Also a variety of activities and is a lot cheaper.

san juan is my favorite place in the world
florida-- eh.. when i think of florida i think of little kids, old people, and spring breakers
san juan is more cultural and holds more of a background . there will be more natives in san juan that tourists

im from pr and i have been in florida for about 35 times. Miami beach its so beautiful but we have more variety in beaches. and we have one of the top beaches in the world PLaya Flamenco in Culebra, PR. also ocean park in the touristic site in Isla Verde, Carolina, PR (the international airport is in Isla Verde also) there are also good hotels in this area, Embassy Suites, Ritz Carlton. the ritz carlton it so beautiful. i stay there for two weeks.

The "L" Word

It all depends on what type of crowd you want to be surrounded by. San Juan offers historical sites, casinos, and a much laid back atmosphere than Miami. San Juan is a predomintely Hispanic culture and tends to be conservative when it comes to dress and personal behavior (you won't see gay men holding hands in person here like you will see in Miami).

Miami tends to cater more to singles, European and gay tourists. It is more costly than San Juan and has a diverse culture of Latinos, northern transplants, and many artists.

Both cities offer great art deco architecture (Condado in San Juan and Miami Beach's Ocean Drive are great examples) and they have great restaurants. If you speak Spanish that will come handy in both cities.

San Juan can also be used as a takeoff point to neighboring islands such as Vieques, St. Martin, and Anguilla. The Bahamas is a quick hop from Miami for a day trip.

san juan is a disgusting pit , the worse place in the entire world. it's poor , sleazy .
