Puerto Rico can give you a fresh start. Just be aware that salaries in Puerto Rico are very low, and that good job opportunities are very hard to find unless you have the right connections.
Also, criminality is a big issue, although there are very good neighborhoods.
The great thing is the warmth and friendliness of the people, the weather and the nature of the island.
The worst thing that can happen is that you may not like it, that would be the worst case scenario. But it is better to have tried, to never have known what would have happened.
You are a professional bilingual individual, and that is a plus! Just do what feels right for you, whatever is going to make you feel better.
One advice that I respectfully would like to give you: even when you run away from problems or situations they still hurt. In the other when you solve them the pain will ease with time, even if you move away from them.

You should try to explore it. Many people need a change, just like yourself submerging yourself in a new culture might be a great way to find yourself and see your strengths. Puerto Rico is a great place to learn Spanish. There are many multinational companies in Puerto Rico looking for bilingual workers. If you really want to learn Spanish, your best bet is to take intensive Spanish courses at the University of Puerto Rico (they offer courses for immigrants who wish to further their education; you can take the course to count as a credit towards a degree or simply just for learning purposes). Check with Berlitz and other language institutes on the island to see what their schedules are.
Puerto Rico is a great country with modern facilities, an educated population and friendly atmosphere. You will love it! |

I would go for it. In PR crime is high, but mostly is drug related or could be romantic triangles sometimes you could be at the wrong place and at the wrong time (like anywhere else in the world) but that should not worry you. I live in CT and all i see in the local news its about killings so...please when talking about PR people should make sure they say why crime its so high. I lived in PR for 22 years and go every year since i moved for 2 and 3 weeks at a time and still "vivita y coliando" so go ahead and move. But yeah, the cost of living it's getting expensive and that's a reality. Enjoy your time in PR! Try one of the many colleges or universities in the island. |

Go right ahead; but beware: most Puerto Ricans speak English, and will probably talk to you in English rather than Spanish. (Since they will probably know that you speak English.) |

You seem to be having some personal issues. You should deal with these first. Still moving is a good idea but be prepared to earn half of what you would be earning in the states. To work as a translator and interpreter you would have to move to the east side of the island. There are no good jobs in the west, north or south of the island. Good luck and get yourself some professional help for you emotional problems. |
