Should I tan before i go on my caribbean cruise? (i burn easily)?

I'm leaving in 10 days. Some say yes i should, but others say i should simply use sunscreen instead.

Make sure you apply sunscreen before and after swimming. Wear a hat, sunglasses and also cover up when you are out in the sun on the deck. My husband is very fair and he is always looking for shade or an umbrella whenever we go to the Caribbean. He even wears a t-shirt when he swims in the ocean or he snorkels. It really helps. The important part is to keep replying the sunscreen. You'll be fine.

Enjoy)

No, you'll get tan just walking around the islands. Just make sure to wear sunblock. Tanning early wont prevent you from getting sunburn.

Pre-tanning also won't prevent cancer. Use lots of sunscreen, try to stay in the shade as much as possible, and wear very lightweight clothes to cover up as much as you can. A nasty sunburn will really ruin your vacation, as well as harm your health.

Getting a base tan is a myth!

You don't need to. My boyfriend works with dermatologists, and he was concerned about going in a tanning booth before we went on our cruise and all of his doctors that he called on said no. Your going to burn regardless.

I have very sensitive skin as well. For the first part of the cruise I used SPF 50, then every other day lowered it down. (spf 45 and 30).. I think spf 15 was the lowest I went on the last day (our cruise was 10 days). Just wear a lot of sunscreen while your there, and apply it often, or your whole trip will be ruined. Have fun!

Artificial Tanning will cause cancer. Use at least a 30 spf sunscreen. Stay out of the sun midday.

No. Tanning is your body's way of responding to the damage done by the sun, so it's not an effective way to prevent damage. You should use a broad-spectrum sunscreen (UVA and UVB) with an SPF of at least 30. Avobenzone (brand name Parsol 1789) is the most commonly used ingredient for this level of protection.

You should develop a base tan. This will help you from appearing red during your trip (think about the photos) and help you tan easier. Use the appropriate amount of sunblock and do two sessions (with at least one day apart) at least 5 days before your cruise. After tanning, shower and exfoliate any dead skin and moisturize your skin.

YES... the sun in the caribbean will really cook you quickly... you stand a much better chance of not burning if you get there with even a light tan.
