I say its up to you, rent a car and explore, if you get lost find East Street or Bay street (East or West Bay Street) and youll get back in no time. For all the people saying there is nothing to see except for Atlantis theyre rong, yes it is very beautiful but the island is 7 miles by 21...I would think there would be SOMETHING else besides one hotel. You can drive off to far off beaches that lack the hagglers and jet skiers (I apologize for them in advance) and you can see the different archetecture without some cab driver talking you to death the whole time (again not hating on the drivers-theyre nice and pretty awsome normally). But like I said before its up to you, controlled travel is fun too and you wont get lost and food can seem expensive to travellers but its not really that expensive if you know where to go. Enjoy your trip |

Remember, they drive on the left!! Atlantis is very accomadating with shuttles, etc., when you need to go somewhere-plus Bahamian taxis are an adventure unto them selves. I wouldn;t rent a car............................ |

If you are visiting the Bahamas, and staying at Atlantis,
Atlantis is a Resort Island connected to the city of Nassau
by a Bridge. When you arrive in Nassau, and you are a Registered Guest , there is a Limousine pick up at the Airport which will take you and your guest in air conditioned comfort along the scenic routes which include down town Nassau, and eventually over the bridge to Atlantis on Paradise Island.
Atlantis is a First Class Resort with everything included, entertainment, restaurants, shopping, gambling, water sports, and a World famous Aquarium. Their are also lots of local and cultural activities there.
You won't need to rent a car, but if you will like to site see in
parts of Nassau, it is better to take a taxi.
Your choice of hotels is number one.

Probably not. I've been to the Bahamas on crusies and there isn't much to see once you are away from the tourist's areas. The hotel will be on the beach, and will probably have a shuttle or cabs to the straw market and docks and such. Plus, if you want to see the other islands, the car isn't going to help anyway. |

No advantages. U will miss out on the beautiful sites if you rent a car. No need to rent a car- Paradise Island is tiny. Supermarket 2 mins away, Beach 5mins walk. |

I don't think so. You'll be in an island plus the island isn't too big to be renting a car. Therefore, no. |

If you will be staying at the Atlantis, Paradise island, You probably will not need a rental car. The island is small, and very accommodating to the tourists, there are many buses, shuttles and taxis to get you where you would want to go.
If you get a rental, they drive on the left hand side, the streets are very narrow, and their is a different standard of etiquette on the road than the U.S.
The responses are right, food is very expensive, as is the better eating establishments. Having a car (taxi)would get you to some of the authentic food places that you might not otherwise encounter. .As for things to do, Atlantis is filled with family activities, so you may find that you never want to leave the resort.
Remember to check your tickets, as most everything will have a gratutity already included.
If you can.. bring some snacky type foods for the room, in the gift shops the average price for lets say a bag of peanuts is $6.00, or for a can of Pringles $5.00.
There is grocery stores off Paradise Island that would be cheaper to shop at, either go to the Super Value on Mackey Street (top of the hill) or City Market, Harbour Bay. |

I am from the US, and lived in the Bahamas for a year. There is no need to have a car while in Nassau. The only place worth shopping/visiting/seeing is Atlantis..other than that there is nowhere to go. The locals drive very crazy, and if you need to venture off from Atlantis, do so in a cab. |
