Since I'm American, will I have trouble going through customs in Cuba?

I heard that Cuban custom officers highly disapprove of Americans. Is that true?

No, they will receive you with the red carpet, because you will go bearing gifts ( dollars ). fidel needs the money

Somebody says here that we love Americans and it is the American government that we dislike.
That applies ONLY to government agents. It is the oficial point of view of the comunist government, not of the population

Very curious that somebody mentions that here. I wonder why

We have been waiting for 50 years for the USA government to do something to get rids us of the comunist tyranny

Victor
No, absolutely not. But why do you want to go there ?
Are you a sympathizer of the comunist regime ?

Somebody says here that "most Cubans love the American dollar ( the American people )
And "the Cubans are most affected by the embargo"

Allow me to fix a little something:
In reality, most Cubans love the American people ( meaning the American dollar )
The so called embargo is not the problem, oh great one. The problem is castro and castro.
Even without embargo the conditions in Cuba would still be a disaster, because the comunist system doesn't work.

Plain and simple !

If you go to spend money in Cuba, sooner or later, fidel and the brother will get their clutches on it, unless whoever has the money puts it under the mattress

I am Cuban

Dios es amor
As long as you bring money, no.

Things have become a little different since the Berlin wall fell and bad old fidel lost his support from the soviet union. He was forced, much against his will, to legalize the use of dollars. Since then, everybody, including the members of the MIN INT, are openly asking for dollars.

Bottom line, you can be president bush. If you bring money, welcome

Oh, no. Just show them some dollars and they will invite you to their homes

Some years ago, when I went back, I was extremely surprised to see that my neighbor, a member of the comunist party, fighter of the Angola war, great supporter of the comunist government, etc, etc, was receiving foreigners in his home for money

Luis M, what the yanks do about travel is their business. I don't care whom they allow or not to go or not go.

They have done bigger badder things that I care about, like why they have allowed fidel kastro 50 years in Cuba

Der Schreckliche
Not at this moment. At the beginning of the so called Revolution that was fidel's motto: "¡ Arriba, abajo, los yankis p'al ...". But now fidel needs the money and you are welcome.

fidel just discovered capitalism. The problem is that he wants to be only one

¡ Viva Cuba, pero sin fidel !

If you show the money, no !

In the present condition of Cuba, everybody is desperately looking for foreign currency

Hey Luis M :
Who cares about what the USA do about traveling ? That is completely irrelevant.

Cuba does not tolerate the traveling abroad of its people, unless through a million filters , especially professionals

el loco
There was a time when the agents of the Cuban government, according to their words, would have torn you to pieces with their teeth ( or so they said ), but now, since the comunists MUST follow the orders of the Comandant without reply, now is not so

Today you are welcome because they need the money

I am Cuban . I know

You won't have trouble. However, it is illegal for a US citizen to (a) travel there from a US location and (b) spend money there.

ahughes1000
I have been to Cuba three times and i'm from the UK. I would not go to Cuba if i were you. You may or may not have trouble getting in but the locals will not like you being there. The country is very anti USA and there are slogans all over the place. I didn't feel safe in Havana and I have nothing to worry about.

yvonne21
No they don't care and they don't stamp your passport either - so you are ok

Luis M
NO, you will not have problems when you get to Cuba.
You will have problems when you get back to United States.

United States is always talking about freedom but their citizens are
not free to travel to Cuba. Amazing ! ! !

Tropicales
No it's not true...Cuban customs officers do not disapprove of visitors, even from the US.
You will be welcomed.

Riki

That is not true, you will have no problem, Cubans love Americans it's the American government they dislike.

Lulu

That is very untrue. Cubans in general know and appreciate what tourism does for the country. As mentioned above unlike the nationals of the island you will be treated ike royalty, regardless of what your nationality.

Tsunami

no they are glad we are there and you have to come in from another coutnry cause we're not suppose to go there legally.
