Yep..... He's right... It is up to you...
Some people say " Ja'merican "...
Or if you're very big on the culture sometimes they say they come from "Yard" (Yard = nickname for Jamaica.)
If another Jamaican hears you they are likely to ask you: What part of Jamaica? Usually that means they want to know the city/town and the Parish that it is located in.
If you are first generation in some cases you can file for dual citizenship in the Caribbean. As far as I know, Jamaica herself doesn't allow for dual citizenship though for first generations born abroad some Caribbean islands do though. It just means you can't tell the U.S. government because they don't recognize it. |

I have the same thing, my dad is Jamaican and my mom was born here. I was born here but moved to Jamaica when I was 7, and I went to high schol everything there. I just came back to the states, but I considered myself Jamaica because I lived most of my life there, even though I am technically American. I just say Jamerican, but Im going to get naturalized in jamaica to be official dual. You are still a yardie. |

You are an American citizen. Your nationality is American. But you are a descendant of a Jamaican Father and a descendant of a American Mother.
My mother was born in Italy and my father born in USA but had Italian parents. I was born in American. Same difference as you. Italian American descent is what I am.
I hope that answers your question) |

In America you are an American. Unless you get Naturalization papers you are not considered a Jamaican. these are papers your parents can get out for you. |
