It was a collaboration of minds I think. Some committe that got together when we became and independent nation.

Check the above link for details about the origin of our flag! And thank you for you wonderful compliment!

hottawarrior - win lose or draw
well since Curious went there, i wont. but they are correct...our flag was created after much thought of what colours to use and how those colours relate to us as a people.

We thank you very much for the complement, as our flag is indeed beautiful. Nothing makes me more proud than to see the T&T flag flying in other areas in the world.

¡Keisha!
What a nice thing to say. If you have not already I hope you can visit one day to. If you think the flag is beautiful wait till you see the country.

curious!
Let me see back to Social Studies in primary school days.......................................

(oh well, the following excerpt was taking from Wikipedia)

The flag of Trinidad and Tobago was adopted upon independence in 1962. The red represents the vitality of the land and the people. The warmth, strength and energy of the sun, and the courage & friendliness of the people. The white stands for the sea by which the land is bound. The cradle of our heritage. The purity of national aspirations and the equality of all men. The black represents strength, unity and purpose. The natural wealth of the land. The dedication of the people joined together by one strong bond. Together the colours chosen represent the elements Earth , Water and Fire which encompass all our past, present and future and inspire us as one united, vital, free and dedicated people.
