Speaking the language of Dominican Republic?

I know the people of Dominican Republic don’t speak Spanish. They speak Dominican which has a root from Spanish but it’s different. I’m on a mission to learn 4 different languages Dominican is one of them but Rosetta Stone doesn’t carry it. Does anyone know of a site or software program that could teach me the language.

Of course, people in the Dominican Republic speak Spanish ! to be exact it is Castillano ( this is one of the purest Spanish) the only problem they speak it very fast sometimes eat half words or sentences. But believe me it is Spanish!

I have to wonder if you have ever even BEEN in the D.R. I lived there for about 2 years and spoke Spanish every day... so I don't know what you are talking about. It is it's own dialect of Spanish... but Spanish none the less.

Clara R
People in the Dominican Republic definitely speak spanish. Roots are from Castile, Spain. There are different accents in different parts of the island and they do speak very fast. Good Luck!

they speak Spanish but very fast
there are words that are different than other Spanish speaking countries
like plastic bag - in other countries is bolsa and in Dominican Rep is foonda

swimming pool - Mexico is alberca, Argentina - pileta, Dominican - picina

I'm sorry, Nadal, but did you just say the people of the DR do NOT speak Spanish?? I do have to laugh....I'm not insulting you but that is hilarious! Because they DO speak Spanish!! I have friends who live there and who've visited there and believe me, it's a Spanish-speaking country.
It's OFFICIAL language is Spanish.

Sorry Nadal but the official language of the Dom. Rep. is Spanish. Two years ago a friend got married out there. Because he was previously divorced he had to have his Divorce papers translated into Spanish. I am not a linguist but whilst out there we spoke Spanish too.

They do speak spannish whilst over there on holiday I took Spanish language lessons which they all took part in because they speak Spanish.

Learn spanish and perhaps then get a friend from dominican or something who could help you learn more.

Good luck! I am on the same mission lol

its spanish..
trying to learn "THE LANGUAGE" iis very easy but its nothing more than a slaq or dominican lanquaqe is the same as trying to learn the slang for the united states or nayother place..thats all it is"SLANG" which can only be learned if your sorrounded by the people whom are speaking it..

HazelSkyye
It is Dominican Spanish. I went there only knowing English and German. I taught myself Spanish from a regular Castillian Spanish book and it helped me very much.
The main differences I have noticed is that they speak very quickly. very very quickly and tend to drop the S on words. for instances

"Como estas mi llamo es Carlos" becomes "Como esta mi llamo eh Carlo"

They also have their own slang just like any other language. If you get a Latin American phrasebook that will be helpful but it really is just Spanish.

we speak spanishhhh!! ¬¬
