St. John Westin ... period. Sapphire Beach on St. Thomas is in a terrible state of disrepair. There are no restaurants open...NONE. The only food you can get is from the suntan lotion / trinket shop on the beach and that means cellophane-wrapped sandwiches. |

I would stay at St John Westin Resort .)
The Sapphire Beach Resort is under new management. The restaurant and bar are closed. The location is good and the beach very nice. go here and read reviews

There is no comparison between the two islands; St. Thomas is VERY touristy - tons of cruise ships are in port here and 1,000's of people crowd the island looking for yet another T-shirt.
St. John is the total opposite; VERY laid back, quiet, romantic; beaches, where no one's feet have touched the sand before.
I guess you need to determine what the purpose of your vacation will be.
If you need help with arrangements or suggestions for other properties (and/or other islands), I'd love to help! |

If you plan on staying on St. John I would definitely do the Westin. The service is top notch and the grounds are so beautiful. The rooms are nice and spacious and all the amenities are great, like the gym and spa. However, Sapphire Hotel is a nice hotel on St. Thomas. But if you don't mind traveling back and forth on the ferry to St. John I would definitely stay at the Westin. |

I wouldn't pick either of them. I stay at the Frenchman's Reef Marriott on St. Thomas. It's wonderful. |

I've seen both of them and in fact find that sapphire beach on St. Thomas has great snorkeling and the view across the bay overlooking St. John and other small islands is absolutely wonderful.
I really can't picture the view from St. John's Westin resort, but I do remember seeing the resort and thinking that place looks totally awesome. Plus I love St. John's more then just about any other island I've been on, mostly because it's quiet and without too many people. It's just so lovely and pretty. If you stay there, you can hop a taxi ferry over to St. Thomas for some night life.
The Sapphire beach resort...it was sorta run down when I went there, therefore, I'd go for the Westin. But I assume you'll get what you pay for. So, I guess...what can you afford?
Bring your own snorkel equipment and that'll save you money no matter where you stay.
Try this site: iBtraveling.com too. I usually find a good travel deal there.
Wish you the best! Have fun! |
