No if you are a USA citizen. The virgin Islands are possessions of the United States. You will need your birth certificate and a photo ID to prove your identity.

Lisa
Are you going directly to St. Thomas? If so, you will not need a passport because it's a US Territory. However, if you're going on a cruise line or if you have a connecting flight on another island, you will definitely need your passport.

Passport regulations have recently changed, so you may want to consult the government travel website, which I've put below.

I am from the virgin islands..specifally "de X'. My bad...das slang over here for St. Croix. You don't need a passport to go to st thomas or any of the other islands in the US virgin Islands. But what you do need is sunscreen and your moneys. We use the US dolar over here. Also, if you do decide to visit, drink alot of water because st thomas is hot and hilly. Its a nice place..you would not regret visiting. Also, thre is duty free shopping on everything. Plus, rum is cheaper there also.

T-Bone
nope, but you will need sunscreen!

Are You a US Citizen traveling from US? NO

If You are a Visitor from any other Country=Yes..

yankee_sailor
everyones right but LISA is more right.....no passport if you're a US citizen and traveling from the mainland direct or via Puerto Rico.......passport yes if you're stopping anywhere else along the way.........

ALSO: Some airlines have their own requirements for passport over and above what the US Gov asks for..so check with them first!

No. It's a US territory and not required unless you are having to make a flight connection within a non-US territory.

A Passport is required for reentry into the US when leaving the US or it's territories by air (land and sea (cruise) travel Passport requirements don't go into efect until January 2008). If not leaving the US or it's territories, it's not required and travel is like traveling from state to state.

When on cruises, when we've entered St. Thomas we had to show our Passports or birth certificates to enter because the ship left the US, went into international waters and stopped at a non-US island before going back into US territory and so we were "entering" the US in St. Thomas. If you are flying there, you don't leave the US (meaning you don't touch land or have the ability of someone jumping on board) and therefore, you aren't required to have a Passport.

However, keep in mind that in St. Thomas, there are other islands close to it that are in the British Virgin Islands and although they don't really get too excited about it, it's not unusual to get checked when coming back by boat into the US Virgin islands, so be aware of that if you venture over to the other islands while there. (Been on shore excursions that went to the British islands and out of 3 times, only got a "courtesy" check of Passport once).

If your coming from the United States, no.

You will not need one if you are a US citizen AND you leave from the US. I just got back, I did not need one. You won't either. But on Jan 1, 2008, you will, because on that date the law will change, and you will be required to have one.
