Stuff to do on a Carribean cruise? |
Okay, my fiance & I have finalized our honeymoon plans. We are going on a western Royal Carribean cruise - instead of St. Augustine. The cruise is paid for so I'm just looking for some general information from anyone who has ever taken a cruise. Any particular things we should pack or be prepared for? Is it easy to get sea sick? Do we have to dress up for dinners? Any advice would help. Thanks! Additional Details We are going for 7 days... |

The way to get sea sickness is to rock the boat on your honeymoon. LOL
We went on a couple of cruises, one there was really rough water and dramamine would be good to have. The Carribean cruise we didn't have any trouble with and you can always get something for sea sickness on the ship too. Yes, there are some formal dinners to dress up for, but if you choose not to, you can always eat elsewhere on the ship that doesn't require it if you are not a dress up sort of person, but it is rathar fun and you can have photos on the ship. One thing that I felt was helpful is if you are a coffee drinker, I would buy one of those lidded mugs to carry around the ship instead of those darn small coffee cups. I would also suggest to fly to Miami or where ever you are docking at the night before and stay a day later for the fact that the airlines have a tendency to change flight schedules! We nearly missed our ship because of this! Also getting to the air port the same day that the ship disembarks is such a zoo!!! If you are in Miami, there is a wonderful shopping area across from the Holiday Inn (which is where we stayed) within site of the port and there is a tour boat that takes you to see where all of the celebrities live. Worth the extra day in my opinion.
Unless you have a shore excursion planned to the islands that you will visit, you can enjoy just as much with an unplanned day and stroll through the villages or hop a cab and go for a ride. I am not sure where all that you are going to, but if Dunn's falls is in the area, it would be a worthwhile place to visit.
Congratulations and Bon Voyage!!! |

Bring a few outfits that are dressy because sometimes they have restaurants with a dress code. If you get sick easily I would pack some Dramamine. But they also have that on the ship so you will be ok if you forget it. They have all kinds of activities to do on the ship so you really don't need to bring much to entertain yourself. Bring a bathing suit obviously! Other than that, just pack what you would normally pack for a vacation! You are going to have a blast. I went on one last year and it was AWESOME! We are going on another next year. Have fun! |

I've been on probably 15 crusies. Royal is a good line a little stuffy not the partying boats like carnival but u don't have to dress up for dinner. Most lines have 1 day like a Wed they would like u to dress up. Just relax they have disco's game rooms casino's everything u could want. About every other day u will go to towns and shop and hang out which is cool. Don't shop on side streets most of the ripoff's are there just buy shirts when u go on the cruise don't buy watches and expensive stuff because it's a pain to try and return the stuff ! Pool wise there is the main in the middle where they have music and play games and stuff like that. At the back of the ship most of them have a pool and hot tub with no music for those that like to read or like me bring my own music. Short's T'shirts that's it don't bring everything ! |

You've gotten some good advice so far.
One thing I will say though, get "motion sickness" patches. Each lasts about 3 days and you need to put it on the day before you go on the cruise. Yes there is a physician on board who can give you a shot should you become seasick. It will make you very drowsy. Why lose even one day to illness?
If you run into a storm at sea, you'll be among the ones still enjoying yourself if you use a patch. Last cruise I was on about 1/3 of the passengers were missing at dinner when we went through some very rough seas. I'm a very good sailor but never go on a cruise without wearing a patch. |

I think one of the nights is a fancy dinner, so find out about that. I got sea sick on my cruise, but it was a small ship and the weather was bad. There is a doctor on board if you do get sea sick, he will give you a shot and it will go away.
Be careful in the sun, wear a lot of protection. The sun in the middle of the sea is dangerous. |

Check RCL to see if you are permitted to bring any liquor on, and if so, bring a bottle of your favorite. Also, bring at least a six pack of bottled water with you along with either Gatorade or soda. You'll get tired of having to get every drink from a bar. Bring a pair of binoculars. |

There are lots of tips on everything from seasickness to dressing to packing etc on cruisecritic.com. They are given by veteran cruisers who know their stuff. |

Depending on the length of your cruise, there will be at least one formal dinner. Pack, of course, beach and pool wear, sun block (tan), and get ready for a grrrrrrrreat time. If the weather is perfect, you will likely not even know you're on a ship and therefore, you shouldn't get sea sick. ENJOY.....! |

Great advice, everybody. I would like to recommend you to make sure you are not allergic to whatever seasickness medicine you decide to take. Also, don't take it if not absolutely necessary, as that kind of medicine tends to make you a bit drowsy. Another thing, we bought Diet Pepsi ashore, because pop was very expensive aboard, so we thought it best to bring it with us. We had M&M's and other munchies too in our cabin. Congrats and enjoy! |
