TRIP TO CUBA-- any suggestions?!?

Hey.. so my boyfriend and I are planning to get away for reading week (we are students.. so we need a reasonable vacation). We planned on going to Cuba because it is pretty reasonable. We were looking at three hotels: Santa Lucia (Camaguey) Club Amigo Mayanabo ; C.a. Carisol Corales ; and Club Bucanero.

Has anyone ever been to these hotels.. or have any advise?? I just don't want to end up in a gross hotel that isn't safe!.

From the Hotels you mentioned i will assume you are traveling on a Budjet. I have been to Cuba about 15 times. Been to all the places you mentioned the best place would be Santa Lucia Cuba.

Although Club Amigo Mayanabo is an ok resort, stayed there 6 times. I would sugeest another resort in Santa Lucia such as Club Amigo Caracol. This resort is usually the same price as Mayanabo if not $20-50 more per person. Caracol has a 24 hour bar and snack bar and is located within minutes walk of all the clubs and has a mini frigge in your room. The clubs are La Jungle $10 pesos to get in drinks are free. Mar Verde $1 peso to get in drinks very from $1 peso to $3 pesos features a show before the club. And Rumbos an outdoor club no admission fee drinks again are between $1 and $3 pesos.

I prefer to book with Sell off vacations. You can book online or goto to one of there many offices and book in person.

Make sure you have a valid passport that does not expire within 6 months of your return date or it won't be valid for Cuban travel.

Also if going to Cuba be sure To put aside $25 cuban pesos each for your departure tax.

First to walleyes with all due respect this site is the English site, as such there are Canadians, brits and every other English speaking people coming here, not just Americans. It's been my good fortune to have been to Cuba nine times, the tenth coming up in December however none were to Santa Lucia or Santiago de Cuba where bucanero is located. An online friend has been to Club Amigo Mayanabo several times and swears by it, they are returning in January for their 15th time. My suggestion would be to check out the reviews on trip advisor, below. I'vealso added other sites you may find useful. Have a wonderful visit, Cuba and Cubans are great.

I was in Club Santa Lucia over 10 years ago...but it was different back then and was in the process of a change-over. At that time it was connected to the next door resort but it was nice there.

But from what I understand, it's a better resort now and is rated 4*.

Take a look at this link to compare amenities. I don't recommend Club Amigo Mayanabo.....I'd go to Club Santa Lucia.

Santa Lucia is beautiful and the beaches are nice....and make sure to take a day trip to an untouched beach....the BEST thing you can do.

Have a great time in Cuba! You'll love it!

*edit: walleye, you got thumbs down because you assumed she was American...not everyone who posts on y/a is american...so she could travel freely to Cuba lol....don't take it so hard. but you are right, it's not easy for Americans to travel to Cuba :-)

walleyeslayer1
I didn't think Americans could go to Cuba. I must be wrong.
Yeah, I'm right. And why would I get thumbs down for this answer? Americans are not allowed to travel to Cuba!
