Take it from a trini - ITS A PARADISE!!!!!!

Okay we have a bit of a crime situation right now but tourists aren't really affected. Just practice safe things and u will be alright. Trinidad has so much to offer from nature to parties to great tasting food from several cultures, its too much to describe so check out these sites!

Luxuries of the U.S my ***. it still amazes me how ppl make the U.S. seem like a place of golden streets. I'm a trini and i've lived in the U.S. for almost 3 yrs and i hate it here. trinidad is not a third world country, ppl just say that cuz it's not 1st world. don't get me wrong, there is poverty and there's a lot of things that u might see that you won't usually see here depending on which part of the states u live. It's just like anywhere else, it depends on which part u'll be staying. i would advise u not to even think about staying in the Lavantille Morvant area plz. but overall, Trinidad is not half as bad as some people make it seem. there are beautiful places to live and the majority of people are warm and welcoming. it's just certain assholes that give the place a bad name with the crime. if u want the beautiful beaches, i would say head to tobago, u can't go wrong there. trinidad beaches are ok but tobago has the better ones. tobago is also more peaceful than trinidad. trinidad is the ultimate party island. And carnival is a whole other story, it's known as the greatest show on earth and i can proudly boast that it indeed is. The main reason trinidad's carnival is so unique is because of our culture. it's undefinable. we have a mixed culture and everyone lives as a family. race is not an issue in trini. plus trinidad is the home of steelpan, calypso and soca just to name a few. and that is the reason our carnival is the best. and no one can party like a trini and no woman can cook like a trini woman so get yuhself a trini woman.
aside from all those good things, crime is definitley an issue now in trini. but don't think it's a warzone or anything like that. everyone still walks the street like normal. you just have to be careful and not be too flashy, and don't be fake. trinidadians don't like fake people, and America is full of them. but just go and enjoy yourself and party, play yuh mas for carnival, and lime (hang out). But keep safe.

Is a party. Love Trinidad lived there for 10yrs. Beaches o.k Sando Hills is really nice. Carnival is what they are famous for. If you intend on visiting pls be very careful crime is at and all time high lots of kidnapping going on. I wanted to buy a house there just because I love it there but now my mind is changed. Make sure you know someone there before you go. Be safe.

My first impression when leaving the plane was the smell of diesel fuel. The smell seemed to be everywhere on the island for the three days we were there. People were friendly, but everyone seemed to have an angle.

Tobago was much more pristine and much calmer. Tobago residents told me Tobago was where Trinis go to vacation, and Trinidad was where Tobago people go to get mugged!

Both places were well worth the trip.

Very beautiful island, spicy Indian food, wonderful friendly people; the trini English accent is sexy.
There is crime in Trinidad and Tobago but nothing compared to that of New York or Chicago.
Trinidad, famous for it's oil and Pitch lake is one of the richest islands in the Caribbean; there is poverty just as there is in Los Angeles or any US city.
Carnival in Trinidad is nothing but out of this world.
With modern hotels, great restaurants and romantic night life, go for a vacation..there's nothing to fear. No one will hurt you unless you are looking for drugs or something illegal.

Carnival is a great big party. However, be prepared for the culture shock. When I went, I wasn't prepared for the "3rd World" country that I got. It's very impoverished....not at all clean and comfortable like the US. Don't get me wrong, the parties were great (and you can haggle the price of ANYTHING you purchase) but don't go expecting the luxuries of the United States.
