The best way to live in Cuba?

I am a British citizen who has a cuban wife and young baby. I want to rent my house out in England and live in Cuba.

The cost of applying for a Permenant Residence Permit seems to be astronomical. What other alternatives do I have?

I've heard that you can can fly out to mexico or jamaica and re enter the country to get a further 60 days.

How many times can you do this and how much does it cost? Is it worthwhile doing it compared to the cost of the Residence Permit?

I have lived in Cuba for 8½ years, and suspect that I understand a bit more than those who left 20 or 30 years ago.

I have to say, that I don't know how much a permanent residence permit costs, and therefore cannot say what is "astronomical" in your books. But flying to Cancun and back, plus the tourist cards, must be $300+ every two months. (Also, the tourist card only allows you to stay in hotels or licenced casas.) And I am not sure how long you could keep doing that before questions are asked.

mc - what sort of visa do you have to live here ?

I have temporary residency associated with a work permit.

I believe there is some longer term family visa - allowing up to 11 months.
Does your wife have a PRE - will she want to keep that ?

Also - any visa/residency based on marriage does not give you a right to work here. On what money do you plan to live ?

I would say that the expats fall into three types - those who spend much of their time complaining what they can't get here; those who make do with what they can get; and those who attempt to live like a Cuban.

If you accept that there are many things from the UK that aren't easily got here (and there are other things that are much better are cheaper than the UK), you can live quite comfortably, but it is not necessarily cheap to live like that.

PS I am not a communist. I simply object to the propaganda and lies that are coming out of Miami.

mc
WOOOW STOP RIGHT THERE

why why why why why.would you want to do that?
Please feel free to look at my answers i have posted here and email me if you like. We need to talk!
You need to think about the reasons you want to leave England.
Are you running away from a country in trouble, is your wife home sick for Cuba.
I understand things are really bad in the UK right now many people out of work, businesses closing down, However what work will you do here in Cuba, what is the cost of the residency, what are the costs of the flights How are you going to pay for the flights back and forward to Jamaica or Mexico.every two months?
Some people here in Cuba say if you have plenty money you can live a good life, well excuse my french here but that is bull ****.Maybe some parts of Cuba are better than others I don't know but it is all under the same roof ,Communism.
I want to come back to England but my husbands family need him here in Cuba, and he can not bear to leave them. I am also expecting a child and now i am in a predicament, i can not think straight, i have no one to talk to about how i feel right now as it would get straight back to my husband, i need to have this baby in England but i have been advised by the Doctors not to travel as i am not having a great time with this pregnancy. Some one on here told me to think very carefully about what i stand to loose against what i gain, i will pass this same advise on to you.
You also have your child to think about. Please think.

Yes for those of you wondering about the time i have posted this it is
now 5am here, i can not sleep it is too hot for me

Why anyone would want to live in Cuba is beyond me. Life is so damn hard for them. Stay in England you are foolish to try to go there. Love the Cuban people. Hate to see their suffering.

I don't think it would be a good idea to move to Cuba or travel back and forth between Cuba and Mexico or ether countries because it costs a lot of money and there are a lot of consequences. Talk to her I think she will be happier moving to England.

The best way to live in cuba is escaping and living in miami, as more than a million of us have done

Victor
The only other reasonable alternative is to stay in England

You can ask mc, who is a British lady who lives in Cuba with her husband. She has an excellent first hand contact with the Cuban reality and she speaks facts

I must say that the best alternative is to stay where you are. Not a good idea to go to Cuba

Regarding beardo's opinion, I must say that is very biased in favor of comunism. I have been observing his answers and sadly, in most cases they do not correspond with the way they really are in Cuba

So sorry

I'm going to forward your question to an individual who regularly posts here who is British and lives in Cuba with his Cuban wife. I can guarantee he'll be able to give you a very helpful answer.

All the best!

Hopefully Beardo, a Brit who lives in Havana with his Cuban wife will check in and be able to give you accurate information, if you don't see him on here soon, check back, he does accept emails. Good luck.
