The rainforest in the middle of puerto rico.? |
Are there any roads where I can drive to get to the rainforest in the center of puerto rico where I can walk up that little mountain and walk on the top. Additional Details That is a small mountain. I have walked up Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive and they are over 14,400 feet tall. My lungs are capable of exchaging gases in the thin air. |

In the middle of Pr is a place called Toro Negrro (I had to misspell Negrro cause on here it takes it as a bad word!). They have a camp ground, and streams with natural pools to swim in. There is a hike there to an observation tower (el torre) and you can see the whole island. It's amazing, and the whole park is wonderful and clean, the water is crystal clear and the air is cool and fresh. I spent a week there and loved every minute. You need a permit to camp there, which couldn't have been easier to obtain, but you can spend the day there exploring free of charge. I wouldn't call it a rain forest, not in the sense that El Yunque is, but it is forested and mountainous. This is a link that has some pics http://www.webshots.com/search?query=Toro+Negro%2C+Puerto+Rico%2C+Caribbean
And this link has some info and pics http://www.rainforestsafari.com/camp.htm
If you need driving directions just let me know, I've been there several times. |

That little mountain in the heart of the El Yunque Rain Forest National Park (it's actually part of the US National Park System) is over 3,500 feet high. I have been to the top of the upper tower lots of times. Ther's a road that you can walk up rather than using the trails and you get there faster. You have to go to the end of the road and walk past the barrier (cars not allowed), then take the next paved road to the right and walk up (its not too far). You will find dwarf trees covered with moss and from the tower you'll be above the clouds (or in them). But there's a scenic route in the center of the Island in "La Cordillera Central", that leads to the highest mountain in Puerto Rico called "La Puntita" at about 4,500 feet and you can drive a lot closer to it. |

Yes, you can drive to El Yunque. It's about 45 minutes from San Juan. There's a road that goes most of the way up the mountain, and you can just park your car and head out to a trail. |

1.The rainforest is more at the east side of PR than to the center. There are other forests at the center of the island.
2. There are rodas to get to the rainforest, also trails where you can walk. |

Yes, there is a road, but in the rainforest, El Yunque I would suggest you not to go alone I would suggest a tour gide.
Here is a website I made when I went to El Yunque on a field trip :
