The Somalian pirates have been hijacking oil tankers taking oil from the middle east to the USA.
The value of the cargo is immense so for quite some time the owners have been paying the ransom because it is less than the cost of taking the oil on a longer route.
Recently, this practice has received publicity. It is technically piracy but has nothing to do with Johnny Depp's character in the film 'Pirates of the Caribbean' loosely based on a different age when there were highwaymen instead of muggers. |
