There have been pirate attacks?

Word on the street is there have been a lot of acts of piracy going on for quite some time now. Where have these attacks been happening, why are they happening, and what exactly are these pirates doing?

The Somalian pirates have been hijacking oil tankers taking oil from the middle east to the USA.

The value of the cargo is immense so for quite some time the owners have been paying the ransom because it is less than the cost of taking the oil on a longer route.

Recently, this practice has received publicity. It is technically piracy but has nothing to do with Johnny Depp's character in the film 'Pirates of the Caribbean' loosely based on a different age when there were highwaymen instead of muggers.

They're occurring off the coast of Africa. The pirates are Somalian and they capture ships and hold them for ransom.

Welcome to Costco, I Love You!
Somalian pirates are hijacking ships and taking prisoners.

But I don't think there have been pirates in the Caribbean for hundreds of years.

SophisticDaniBaje
The pirates are Somalian which means they are from Somalia which is a country in AFRICA not the Caribbean
