Don't drink to cold the first days of your stay, your stomach is not used ti it. Avoid buying tours in the hotels, they are to expensive! buy them outside. And take a mosquito repellent, there are a lot in Punta Cana.
In Puerto Plata it is much better but this was your choice....

Sunscreen, bug spray (for if you go off the resort - the resorts all spray and you usually see no bugs at all), diarhea meds just in case, camera, tylenol, sunburn gel, singles for tips for great service, sunglasses. Be careful about buying trips off the resort, not all that you can buy are on the up and up or insured in case there is an accident. It is far safer to buy on the resort and the costs will be close if not the same and most places haggle anyway. Always haggle for prices on everything. Most of all take a good attitude and have the time of your life.
p.s. the reason to take your own meds and sun stuff is that they are outrageously expensive down there. If you think you may need it - take your own.

Bring Insect spray and sunscreen at least 30spf. Apply sunscreen often. You don't want to burn.

Beach towels go fast at the all-inclusive resorts, get them early.

Bring Imodium for upset tummy. Some times different food and drink will do a number on your stomach.

Bring $$ for tips.

Don't overpack.

Do bring several bathing suits and cover ups.

Bring a good attutude and enjoy)

ooohhh we just went there!! Um... lot's and lot's and lot's of sunscreen!!! That's all I have to say ^^ A camera would be nice too, it's really pretty :)

If you're planning on going on any hiking excursions make sure you bring an insect repellent with at least 25% DEET in it.

Sunscreen.

Bring some large mugs/cups because sometimes the cups that they give drinks in are very small. You'll save yourself a few trips to the bar.

Make sure any prescriptions are in the original packages.

Bring at least $100 in ones for tips.

Try to learn at least a little bit of spanish before you go. Remember you're in their country, try to communicate with them in their language. They'll like you a lot more if you at least try.

I packed a small first aid kit. Didn't needed but with kids you never know. Sun tan lotion, water camera, learn some Spanish, chap stick with sun blocker in it. Do not drink the water!! Drink only the bottled water that they have there. Do go on the Outback Safari. We went para sailing, snorkeling (bring if you have your own), ATV enjoyed everything. The people are wonderful. have fun

one thing i got to tell you find out how much is the money worth
like if you are taking dollars because they would rip you off if you don't know the value of the money over there always bargain if you are taking a taxi because they could over charge you always ask the reception about the taxi and take some off for the mosquito especially now over the their is allot of them also towels sandals water shoes hats sunscreen camera sun glasses the water is safe to drink you don't get sick from the water very safe try to find out what kind of tours the hotel provides have a safe trip is beautiful over there no regrets in my part the people are very friendly to tourist they welcome you over their you feel like home I go every summer to Puerto Plata and the Romana is paradise

well im from Dominican republic abd i go to punta cana all the time all what you really need is good bathing suits cuz we have some amazing beaches down here:)

Sunscreen..band-aid/antibiotic and aloe.

When I was there the exchange rate was $1 (american) to 60 of DR!! So bring small change like $5 and $1. This way u tip and get taken care of.

Don't forget to tip the maid!! Leave a few each nite. They will stock ur fridge with whatever u want!! You will feel like royalty. Also, if you use the ATM...u may get a better exchange rate.

Oh yea, Camera!
